Check out http://www.auto-report.net/index.html?tm200302.html ; It contains a list of recent trademarks for vehicle names and the companies that filed them.

Browsing through the names, I notice several very interesting ones:

DaimlerChrysler: CLS 63, CLS 65, C 63, C 65, E 65, G 65, ML 65, SLK 65, CLK 65. These are all obviously AMG model names. It looks like Mercedes is planning its next salvo in the HP wars. It is interesting to think about the 6.5 V12 sitting in the C-class... I wonder how AMG is going to get it to fit?

DaimlerChrysler: GL 320, GL 350, GL 550, GL 55. I am guessing Merecedes is moving into the compact-sport-ute realm with the GL-class. Either that or it is a full-sized ute.

BMW AG: 225, 230, 425, 430, 435, 650, 660. For those of you not up on BMW nomenclature, it shows that BMW is thinking of new engines. 2-Series coupe with 2.5 and 3.0 liter 6. 4-Series coupe with 2.5, 3.0 liter 6 and a new 3.5 liter motor... --perhaps we will see a return of the big block 6 or updated small 8.

The 660 is obviously a 6.0 liter V12 powered 6-Series. Less clear is what the 650 is... perhaps the 5.0 liter V8 from the old M5 will see duty in the 6-Series. This is an odd choice because the 6-Series will then have a 500hp, 444hp, 400hp, 325hp and 225hp (in Europe) powerplant options --that's a lot.

BMW AG: H7. Hydrogen powered 7-Series? There is a test car running around.

DaimlerChrysler: DODGE ENFORCER. I wonder what this car could be?

Ford: FORD LCF. Ditto.

Audi AG: AUDI RT, AUDI TR, AUDI ST, AUDI TS, AUDI SP ?????

Thats interesting, but most of them are for Mercs, and as good as they can be (especially the AMG models) I find them pretty boring these days.

"GL" is the new name for the redesigned G-class, expected for MY2007. Mercedes will also come up with an R-class and a new M-class, both to be SUVs (I think R-class is going to go up against X3 and Freelander, but I've heard otherwise - we'll see).

One thing to keep in mind, particularly with the Audis, is that some or most of these could be concept car names. And don't just assume a '435' will have a 3.5L engine...

EDIT:

That's the correct link. Ford Finalist is a good name. Jeep looks to be getting several new vehicles. And scarily, it looks like Dodge snapped up the names Dakota and Durango for Europe. I can't think of any vehicles less suited...

The Enforcer is probably the police special package for Dodge Magnums or Chrysler 300Cs.

That would make sense. Cool name.

Well given BMW's history... a 3.4 or 3.6 is certainly possible. People keep talking about a turbo version of the 3.0 M54TU. That may be the 435Ci, but if so they should stick to heritage and call it the 445Ci 👍

Personally, I hope they go for big cubes and big revs rather than a turbo.
