Red Circle of Death? Was that it?

I just finished a race and when the game was autosaving, it took about a minute (which feels like forever).

I thought something looked off, and my youngest son said "Hey! Why is that spinning thing red?"

I've started another race and everything seems fine.

Is that the "Red Circle of Death" that I've read about? If it is, does it indicate a problem with the PS2, the memory card, or the game?

Am I doomed?

That happens to me all the time. Whenever I go to Seattle or Swiss Alps, it does that. I just reset the console and continue with the game. This has been discussed a lot before. I see no need for it to remain in existence.

Oh, and this is my 50th post!

Actually, that guy was wrong and you are correct. This is NOT just an X-box thing, it happens in GT4. You have encountered the Red Circle of Death. Hate to break the news to you.

I personally had this happen to me. I bought a used copy of GT4, and within a week, certain races wouldn't finish loading. I tried opening and closing my game console, cleaning the lens, putting my console on its side, dropping it! Nothing worked! :banghead:

What finally worked for me was to return the used copy of GT4 and buy a brand-new one. Even tho my used copy looked flawless, it may have had microscopic scratches I couldn't see (that's my theory, anyways). Since I got the new copy, I haven't had any Red Circles and I've been playing for 2 solid years.

It can be caused by disk read errors and either dirty or misaligned laser.

If you have an old style "Fatty" PS2, then the link in the second post of this thread is extremely useful. Follow it to the letter. I did it when my PS2 started giving disk read errors and it's worked perfectly since I cleaned it out and realigned it.

The red circle appears when the PS2 fails to read the GT4 disc during gameplay. Otherwise, if it's having issues at startup it'll never get past the browser screen and will display the Disk Read Error message there.

I'd advise giving your PS2 a good overhaul and cleaning. 👍
Run a CD lens cleaner disk if you have one.

That's another thing I tried: using a CD lens cleaner. That didn't help me, but it might help you.

I'm telling you...it's been 2 years since I bought my new game. Since then I haven't even cleaned the lens! No problems here. Hopefully you'll have my luck, GTNewbie2009

I dont think smallhorses likes me very much , yes i have a big fat playstaion 2 and I live in Brentford. But back to the thread in hand I find if you eject the CD and put it back in it works or you might want to give it a rinse then dry it with a towel VERY THOURGHLY and then put back in the playstion and within 30 secs the circle should turn white and the game should run normally. It also occurs if you take the CD out of the console but you probably new that.

?????

I live in California and have a 2001 model "fat" PS2 too, how that translates to not liking you I'm not overly sure?
The post you quoted was a response to the original poster anyway!

The "fatty" designation is a quick and easy way for a member to distinguish between an old PS2 and the newer "slimline" PSTwo versions when determining the causes and fixes of faults.

That happened to me once, after I A-Spec'ed the Nurburgring 4H Endurance. Can you see that it mostly happens after endurance races? and also showed after I A-spec'ed a GTWC race.
