Release date not on a Tuesday? (US)

Any idea why the release date isn't on a Tuesday? I always thought games were released on Tuesday's here in the states. Am I missing something?

Well it's a worldwide release not just an American release and who knows why they picked any particular day of the week.

Tuesdays are the usual release date for the States as that's when the PlayStation Store updates. It would mean a downloadable version for such games, but I doubt we're seeing a downloadable GT6. Anytime soon at least.

Friday is a good day, I think it was a good decision.

We can spend all weekend playing as soon as we get our hands on it this way :D

Fridays have been increasingly common for games; I picked up Arkham Origins last Friday too. It's not too surprising; if shipments are becoming more flexible, it's a busier day for most retail outlets (so more traffic = more chances of a game being bought, especially at the profit-friendly full price), and folks who work during the week will love not having the rest of the work week in front of them as they do on Tuesday.

Seems like game publishers are starting to care less about the traditional US release day of Tuesday, Batman Arkham Origins released on a Friday just last week as wel, for example.

Definitely like it better this way.

It's logical.

Most of the world works 9-5 (what a way to make a living) Monday-Friday. Why would you want a game that you've waited a long time for released on a Tuesday when once you get home and installed 10+GB of data you only end up getting around 2-3 hours play?

Releasing on a Friday gives you that but also all Saturday and Sunday to carry on playing.

👍 Yup I'll be taking Friday off for the release and I told the wife not to speak to me unless someone is dying. But I completely agree with your assertions.

I too am very much looking forward to having Friday + the weekend to play GT6. As soon as GameStop opens on Friday morning, I'll be in line to grab my copy of the game!

Well, for the Spaniards the release date isn't clear at all. We celebrate the Spanish Constitution day, so shops should be closed. I hope GameStop opens, I cannot wait one more day to play this game haha

I'm kinda glad that Friday is the release day. It gives all of the weekend to download the massive patch, wait 40+ minutes to install the game data (who wants to do that?), and still have lots of time to enjoy it. PD made a wise choice.

I don't disagree Fridays are good to release a game, I was just curious as to why not the norm of a Tuesday. I am one of those mon-fri work guys, so I'm tempted to take that Friday off and have all weekend as well!

Yes Tuesdays are the typical release dates (US). Last 2 games that came out on Friday that I purchased were Skyrim and Gears Of War 3. I wish more games released on Friday. Tuesday is a terrible day to release games.

When games launch the same day worldwide one region has to be on a different day to normal, since we don't all get them on the same days. UK release day is always Friday but on worldwide launches they tend to be on the US day, Tuesday.

GT6 just seems to be the other way around.

Isn't the launch party in Spain?

I'd prefer that games and movies were released on Fridays anyways so I'm game. I don't know why Tuesdays are the norm. Arkham Origins was just released on Friday here in the states, when Skyrim was released I believe it was on a Thursday or Friday... not sure why I remember that ha ha
