May 14th is the official deadline for cable modem companies, DSL providers, broadband over powerline, satellite internet companies and some universities to finish wiring up their networks with FBI-friendly surveillance gear, to comply with the FCC's expanded interpretation of the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act.

Um...guys? A little interpertation on this please? Does this mean the FBI at anytime with ease can monitor your computer usage through your ISP?

This means i have to keep a sledgehammer above my desk now. If the men in black show up "Ummm.... ill be right back" slam.......... slam slam....... slam "What were you saying again?"

Better get a couple movies in by then. I didn't say anything, what do you think i said something, get off my back!

I wonder if this will slow down pirating music and dvds online, since the FBI can see exactly what you have on your computer.

I don't think they can do that. They can see what you're downloading and uploading, but as far as seeing what you have on your computer, system files and all? Doubt it.

Actually, the FBI has the ability to monitor whatever the hell they want. That's why I just keep my porn on my desktop.

I use a program called peerguardian to keep unwanted people from looking into my computer. It seems to work pretty well, and its free.

I.... Love.... Big.... Brother. Do you LOVE big brother?

DONT ASK QUESTIONS.

Goddam Patriot Act.

So I guess you're under the impression the patriot act was passed back in 1994 when this subject/ act was originally passed?  :dunce:

Congress passed CALEA in 1994 to help FBI eavesdroppers deal with digital telecom technology.

I was operating under the assumption this was starting in conjunction with tapping random peoples phone lines. No need to roll your eyes.

And I was only a baby when that was passes, so how was I supposed to know?

EDIT: 2,900 posts! :D

I understand you are young and I'll keep that in mind.
None the less, you were supposed to know that because you were supposed to read the article you were commenting on.
The quote I provided came right from the link in the first post (first line, second paragraph).

The first comment I made was at 2 a.m. in the morning... Do you think I have the attention span at that time to read it? I just finished reading it and I do see what you are talking about. :)

I still feel like I'm bieng watched.....

Yes, we should all be terrified. The FBI has nothing to do, so they're going to be searching day and night to find our less-than-legal music and movies (some of the adult variety). Plus, we all know that al-Qeada loves Metallica. Consider the War on Terror over.

I am really worried about this...can anyone here give me some insight on what this REALLY means? What if I do the more than occasional dabbling with Christian downloads without purchase? Should I be worried? Who should be worried?

I wouldn't worry about illegally downloading anything if thats what your trying to say. They will most likely go after the big downloaders if they are going to be looking. I should tell my friend seeing that he has over 100gigs worth of movies on his external :scared: .

I don't really care, I already have all of Metallica's, Zeppelin's, and Lamb of god's albums :D. I think i have around 8 gigs of music and i've only paid for 3 cd's.

I know someone who has 2 Terrabyte of movies, music, games and other software on his hdd's. The only problem he's heaving is the lack of letters in our alphabet to name all the partitions :)
