Can anyone tell me what the point of remote racing is? A mate and I have each put a driver in to "earn each other cash". I'm awake when he's asleep because of the time difference.

So, I thought it could be done in the background while I got on with my own stuff. But it doesn't seem to be like that.... it's worse than B spec because you can't even tell your driver what to do!

I see there's a button at the bottom to put server in standby mode... what does that do? I'm afraid to click it!!

If there was a way that our 2 bobs could battle it out in "the cloud" while we get on with our own racing, that would be great.... but it doesn't look like it works that way. Or have I missed something?

Putting GT5 in Sever Standby mode allows you to start remote races from your computer through the GT website. Unfortunately, you cannot do anything else with GT5 while remote racing.

Also, the point of remote racing is so you can level up your drivers and earn cash while you do something else. To get the best out of remote racing, set up a second account on your PS3 and use it to race all of your drivers so you'll accumulate money much quicker.

the point of remote racing widget is to carpet bomb experience for your drivers, Bspec overall, and gain lots of cash.

there are optimizations for each of these functions to maximize your potential.

I have 2 LMP cars and an RM mod I wouldn't normally have thought to get, and I'm saving up for a Ferrari F1 car to see if I can sneak in the challenge.

That's the point of the widget - to expose you to gameplay you wouldn't be able to without extensive MANUAL grinding.

OT, but if you complete all of B-Spec races, you are gifted either the F1 2007 or F1 2010.

Not exactly, you get a Level 24 ticket for beating all of the endurance races in A or B Spec. You CAN get the F1 2007 or F1 2010, but can also get a Formula Gran Turismo. It's random ... unless you save a backup on a flash drive, and repeat until you get the car you want :sly:

Thanks Muo, that's sort of what I thought. Pity GT5 is out of bounds while doing it....

Not just gt5, but everything. That's the pity. I wouldn't mind it if I could start a remote race and then watch Netflix or a blue ray disc. But you can't use the ps3 for anything else while remote racing. So generally I put it on standby, run it from the online site (because I'm hoping that this will be less wear & tear on the ps3, but I don't know), and just run the races when I'm doing something else entirely - like housework or reading a book.. or reading at this forum. haha.
I don't use the automator for remote racing because something just worries me about running a gazillion races for hours straight. We have a warranty on the PS3, but after hearing horror stories about dying machiness, overheating & such, I'm skeptical. I've burnt out video cards on my computer, so I'm very wary.
