The Data Logger doesn't "log data".
Here is how it is, fairly accurately, described.
"Data Logger now available
[Data Logger] has been added to the [TOOLS] section in "My Home". The Data Logger analyzes the driving data stored on a Replay file and displays it in a graph, allowing users to view and compare variations in vehicle speed, acceleration points, braking points, engine rpm values and gear positions."
The function of "logging" was already in GT6, as is proven when you use this function to "analyze and display" data from a replay stored prior to 1.06.
It's a bit of a stretch to claim that it is capable of "analysis" in that it doesn't actually analyze anything.
Analysis - "to study (something) closely and carefully : to learn the nature and relationship of the parts of (something) by a close and careful examination".
What this function does do is to "display it in a graph", providing a view which can assist a human to perform the actual analysis.
I realize that in GT5, the similar function was also erroneously called "Data Logger", but it's never too late to correct an error.
I'd propose the use of words such as "Replay Data Display Tool", "Replay Grapher", "Replay Chart Maker", "Replay Log Presenter".
I think you'll agree that one of the things it does NOT do is to "log data"!
