News: Trophy puts 'Mega' in Megane

Renault is about to start development work on the Megane Trophy - which will next season star in its own one-make international series. And speculation has already started that the car could breed a road-going version similar to the extraordinary Clio Renaultsport 255.

With its outrageous styling, lowered bodywork and mid-mounted engine, the Trophy is even more of an eye-catcher than the Clio. With 320bhp going through a six-speed sequential box, it's going to be even more of a neck-twister, too. Highlights of the car's specification include:

Tubular chassis, 950kg all-up weight
Modified 3.5-litre V6 engine from Espace and Vel Satis
320bhp and 228lbf.ft, 155mph top speed
Vented discs all around, six-pot front calipers

The car will feature in eight or nine meetings next season, at venues like Le Mans, Donington, Monza, Monaco and Estoril.

Renault estimates that a vehicle will cost less than 100,000 Euros - that's around £65,000. For a full season's racing, teams will pay around £125,000. A lot for a Renault... but what price a Trophy?

A modern day MR rally car, not likely. It's more of a sports touring car if anything.

:lol:. You don't like this car? I think it looks quite sharp. I got one question, Is this rear wheel drive? 'Cause it has if its gonna compete with the clio sport. But I like the styling on the front, its got that pissed off look ti it. Which I like:tup:

Yes, it's mid engined rear wheel drive just like the Clio V6, however the two cars are not competing, this is a race car not a road car and will be racing in t's own one make series next year. A road car is apossibility but it will have to be notable better/worse than the Clio V6, unless the V6 is discontinued as Renault wouldn't want two of their own nich cars competing against each other.

I don't mind them until you get to the back, then it all goes very wrong, this one hides it's ugliest feature quite well with the different rear bumper and the lip over the window.

Right, considering the New Megané is my all time favourite car, you can imagine how I'm feeling after seeing this.

WOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAHHH! :drool::drool::drool:
