I just got my first wheel about a week ago and after finally getting used to the racing aspect of it, I decided to try drifting. Now I am a pretty good DS3 drifter and I typically drift in chase view. That being said it looks like I have never drifted a day in my life with the wheel. It is extremely hard. I had to drop my viper for the 215 hp AE36 S.S. version. One thing I have noticed is that I can't drift in chase view anymore now that I have a wheel, the back end throws me off sometimes. it seems like I am doing better while using the roof cam so I will try to get used to that.

Also I heard that tunes are much different for wheels vs. DS3, can someone elaborate exactly why this. Thanks!

Reason why tunes for wheels compared to DS3's are different is because you have more smoothness in countersteering.
Whilst DS3's want a more twitchy and responsive back end to keep drifting because they can go lock to lock pretty damn quickly.

I also suggest to keep at hood cam when drifting 👍

I think everyone on a wheel has been there lol... test tune A LOT, be patient = Drifting 👍

Welcome to the wheel drifting world, depending on your wheel you will either have lots of fun or lots of angry moments(DFGT). Keep at it and you will surely figure it all out. Don't go too high into the FFB level, it is incredibly unrealistic in the strength and won't help you like alot of uneducated people believe. Good luck.

So what level FFB is most realistic? I use FFB 10 for normal races, but FFB 5 when practicing drifting.

Congrats on ya steering wheel mate 👍

Yeah, it does take a bit of getting used to it. Mainly the angle of the wheel is the probably the first thing you'll need to get used to. I drift in cockpit view for the premium's, and hood view for the standard's. Chase view doesn't work for me but different strokes for different folkes.

Anyways keep at it and you'll be fine :dopey:

I'd honestly say between 1-5 is about as hard as any modern car with power steering would be, older cars may be harder but in reality once the wheels are moving steering only gets lighter and lighter.

I'll try adjusting my FFB settings later today. I have been keeping it on 7 but I will try out the 3 to 5 range. Thanks for the advice on the FFB.

Yes, using the wheel is a lot different than drifting with the DS3 and as long as you stick with using the wheel to drift you will get a hang of it. You also have to learn how a real wheel would react in real life which can also help you.

True, it is a lot like a real wheel would react. It's obviously different but it's not too far off IMO.

Edit: How about you try helping the OP instead of criticizing what I say. :dunce:

Being a drifter in IRL, I am not able to drift with the wheel due to the big differences it has between GT5 and RL. And how bout you try to freak on me stating my opinion too. Or am I not allowed to?

I do give lots of respect to the guy/girls who drift with the wheel. I know a few who are absolutely amazing! But Im just saying I cant do it, I like to base things on RL too much and its just not. The same reason why i cant watch Fast & Furious movies. Just to damn fake.

I'd like you see you "drifting" IRL.

"Formula D bound", get in tough with reality bud.

And I like how this has turned into a school playground.
I think people are split on this because when drifting in GT5 I feel it is more predictable, due to the nature of computer games being programmed to 'be' a certain way. The grip across the width of the track does not change (as far as I can tell anyway), whereas IRL there is a broad spectrum of track 'evolution'. I hope everybody gets what I mean.
OT, when I first started drifting in GT, it took me a long time to get used to the DS3, and even longer to get used to a wheel. It will come eventually. I still find it hard to get golds in some of the drift events, so maybe I'm out of my depth to give any solid advice, but I agree with FFB comments. Too much and it there is a massive cliff where the wheel fights, then you lose grip and it goes all loose.

EDIT: Maybe Crazed and Spank could do a little challenge with some video evidence. I'm not a fan of using points to find who's better at drifting, so maybe a vid or 2 showing ALL the skills eg tandem, wall grazing, apex etc.

Well by the way you talk it sounds like you think you're the bomb at "drifting" so I would like to see it. 👍

I'm sure you're awesome at it!

Never once stated I was "the bomb" at drifting. Just get over it and move on...

I said it "sounds like", so learn how to read before you criticize me once again. Way to change your profile around, maybe I made you realize that you're just another teenager who likes drifting and thinks he's going to make it into D1.

I know its a terrible name, right. Tell it to these guys

It seems it is you that is closed minded and I don't know why you keep putting apostrophy's on drifting because we do all drift on GT5 so I don't know what you're doing there.
Oh and your spelling is :censored:ING AWFUL.
