While I did enjoy GT1's electronica, most of the revamped music in GT4 was actually quite enjoyable to my ears. I even saved a few of the music tracks on my PC. The majority of music was rather soft, but I didn't mind the mellow music. GT2's menu music was okay. After a while, I thought it was not really good. I didn't really like some of the blues-type music. GT3 had some nice music, with my favorite being the License Test theme. I believe that track is called "Concentration." GT4 has some good menu music. You normally hear five different themes when in Gran Turismo Mode. The first one sounds like a slower, more hip version of GT3's Tuning Shop theme. The second theme is a variation of Gran Turismo 2's music when you save a game, load a game, or trade cars. The third theme (which is my personal favorite) is kind of a variation of a song I heard before, but not in the American GT3, but it also features the main menu in GT2's Simulation Disc. The fourth theme is a much slower variation of GT3's License Center theme that kind of grew on me, and liked it. The fifth theme is pretty new to me. It's all mellow and nice, probably music better suited to checking out or taking photos of your GT4 rides.
Many of the themes are revampings of old tunes in GT4. Is that a bad thing? To me, not at all. As long as they aren't getting butchered. I like stuff like hard trance and all, but I'm also a mellow person, so I have my fair share of music interests such as some soft love songs, R&B, even serene melodies. It would be nice to hear a soundtrack featuring all the menu music, or at least many of the favorites. If GT5 had renditions of older GT songs, I'd probably want to hear a extended remix of the Nissan theme from GT1, maybe a slower rendition of the Honda/Acura theme from GT1, a more pimpy hip-hop version of GT2's North City... I want PD to play around a bit with this, if they decide not to make brand new menu music.
