U.S.-based Revenge used the 2010 Detroit Auto Show to introduce the world to its Verde Supercar, and we were there with cameras in hand to capture the event on film memory cards. Honestly, we were impressed with the Verde's outer appearance, though we couldn't get close enough to see the interior or the car's underpinnings.

Speaking of which, Revenge claims that the Verde shares a good portion of its aluminum chassis with the dearly departed Ford GT. Powertrain options are, shall we say... interesting. We're certainly not complaining about the Roush-sourced Ford Racing V8 with 605 horsepower or the supercharged GM LS9 with 638 horses. It's the Hp2g Hybrid drivetrain option that we're a wee bit leery of... not that we wouldn't love to believe that the V8 engine puts out 400 horsepower while running on E85 and returning upwards of 100 miles per gallon, it's just that we need to see it for ourselves before we believe it.

Moving on, the bodywork is fashioned from aluminum and carbon fiber, which allows for a weight of 3,500 pounds. Performance estimates put the 0 to 60 time at between three and five seconds, depending on the powertrain chosen. Top speed will reportedly be over 200 miles per hour, with optional gearing that could potentially allow the Verde to hit 240 mph. Pricing is set at $190,000 and Revenge says it's planning to put cars in paying customer's hands later this year. We'll see.

I saw this sometime ago and I couldn't help but think "Criterion are actually making cars now?" the first couple of photos I saw (a prototype I assume) looked quite similar to the Carson 500 GT, but in any case it's undergone a slight redesign since then....what do you think?

I hope this isn't a repost, I didn't see it anywhere. :ill:

This would have been a rather big deal 4-5 years ago. This seems, dare I say, bog standard these days. Particularly when it uses the engine out of a car that is just as fast but costs half as much. Its like an incrementally-better Ford GT after that was good enough.

And E85?
Even the pork spending Senators that got that pushed around as the big thing have had to give up on it.

Well, I don't know the only other car that I can think that has a higher base mileage and looks just as good (being a green car) is the Tesla Roadster. The Verde is definitely a looker though and I'm sure once they sell at least five or more they'll work up another version with more power.

Yet another fairly awesome American supercar to throw on the "Wow that looks awesome at first, but they won't have enough money to actually build the thing" pile.

"Revenge Verde" Sounds killer to me. Looks killer. And doesn't matter that the name tries to sound ecological ("Verde"=Green), it still is an envirommental killer (not that it matters since the low production numbers). Still, great car, I like the way it looks and the power...and "Revenge"...Oh man! 👍.

We can hope at least one American exotic company tries to keep the production numbers low at first and don't get a swelled head halfway in and decided "You know what? Let's go international and challenge, oh, I don't know....Ferrai!"

I really can't think of anything to add to what you've already said.

I saw an ad for this car in a magazine called duPont Registry. It was a CGI picture of the car, but it looks pretty good in real life.

You've seen it in real life? (I'm not questioning the truthfulness of this statement, just trying to sort out what your grammatical intent was.)

100 mpg out of a 4-liter V8 on E85?

That's, of course, after converting E85 into its gasoline equivalent taking into account carbon off-setting and government subsidies as well as calculating for how green your customers are... right?

Or maybe they mean: it'll get 15 mpg, but since 85% of that is corn-fed alcohol, you're doing 100 miles per gallon of dino-fuel (never mind the extra six gallons of alcohol needed to make up the difference!).

No shenanigans needed. Just lots of bull**** mathematical manipulation.

It really is a shame, because that looks badass. Ditch the whole "look we're being green!!!!11111" ******** and put the LS9 in there (or something equally mean but naturally aspirated). That car can sell on its looks.

And how do they base a car on the Ford GT when that's kinda sorta owned by Ford? They dismantle Ford GTs to build this?

I think it's built around the chassis, if you look at the A-pillar (or C-pillar...I can never get this crap right) you can see the GT's likeness. I wouldn't be surprised if it's only a few millimeters longer.

I was looking at it a little harder and you can tell around the cabin its similar to a Ford GT. But without knowing that I would've never pointed it out at all.
