The biggest pain in the bum in Prologue. Why can't we shift down into neutral and reverse, so infuriating to have to press a little button on the wheel, especially if you are moving said wheel.

Yes, I do realise it would be easier if I didn't go off and thus have to use the reverse gear, but come on, it's done like how I said in F1:CE.

You don't have a G25 then. I really don't care about reversing, however i agree with you on that. To be able to shift into reverse with any wheel.

I use the paddles behind my wheel to shift, and I use the up direction on the sequential shifter to reverse, and the down direction to e-brake. Maybe that will work for you. Doesn't the DFGT have that sequential stick shifter? Maybe that will work for you.

Cue the age-old words of "you shouldn't need to reverse in the first place!" :P

Honestly, if you're in a situation where you need reverse gear, you aren't fighting for a win. Though I do agree its silly we can't just shift down.

I never got why Gran Turismo took this rather complicated approach for going reverse. For decades, in almost all racing games on multiple platforms, you always had to shift down to get to reverse, and then press the accelerator. Much easier and much more logical that. It's not that big of a deal, but still, I'd love to see that fixed for GT5.

Stick or paddles don't work to shift down into reverse on the DFGT. Can I map controls at all?

Yes you can. I was able to with my DFP, so I expect the DFGT can too.

Once you tell your paddles to do the shifting, you can give your 'stick' any assignments you want.

In other words, you can't reverse and shift with the same control, but using the stick to go into reverse is much easier and more natural than using a little button. Same thing with e-brake.

I agree... why is it that we can't just downshift? Most games have an auto-reverse, but usually you can shift down into reverse.

I used to miss shift into reverse in previous games while downshifting to first and again (by mistake) to reverse, but thats my fault. I'm guessing they made this change to eliminate the possibility of down shifting to reverse by accident. Although I would prefer being able to shift down to reverse with the flappy paddles.

I like how GT does reverse because of this. Too often I have shifted into reverse in Ferrari challenge when I didn't want to. If it happens during a race it will ruin your race. If you have to use reverse your race is already ruined. So I don't mind having to press a button.

Was gonna say - it's quite nice having a safeguard of just blatting the buttons as many times as you want to get down to 1st!!

I just noticed that when you reverse traction controll turns on. I always noticed the lag but i didn't realise what the hold up was. Steering while reversing will really bogg you down.
this makes fun stunts like reverse 180º unnecessarily dificult.
PD should really fix this or offer the option of turning it off.

I use a g25 and finding reverse still annoys me, especially when i use the shifter and clutch. Instead of pushing down, to the right and back for reverse, it would be awesome to to have reverse located where 6th gear would be, for cars with 5 speeds. it would only seem right.

👍

One of my biggest gripes with Gran Turismo in general. Being able to shift down would allow for much better control while reversing. Even if we just had to press triangle (rather than holding it down) to activate the reverse gear would be fine with me.

I think because PD wants to replicate Sequential on how it's done in rear cars..

You really do have to press a button to shift into reverse.

So I love the idea to press the button to reverse... Yeah on wheels is bit pain in the butt, but thats how cars are.

I also like you just can not downshift to Reverse by accident when down shifting.

But I think they should do to turn ON reverse gear, hold TRIANGLE for 1 Full Second, let go and press on GAS peddal, To turn it off press triangle again or just switch gear up.

But if you have G25, or Porsche wheel, H shifter and clutch.. you can shift into NEUTRAL and REVERSE just like in real car.

Yes, there may be cars which do have a button to activate the reverse gear but I'm willing to bet there's no cars out there which have you holding down the reverse button to accelerate.

Yeah of course, that is why I mention PD should only use the button to switch for REVERSE and hold GAS to accelerate.. That way I would be much happier with Sequential

I would rather see this happen then REVERSE lights..
But PD has bigger concerns like Damage and day night cycles ;)

This is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to GT and it really isn't something that would be hard to implement... I really wish they fix this on the full game.

I've asked this before but never get a answer, does the clutch and shifter on the Porsche wheel work within GT5P? I heard it doesn't.

Ok, this has been bugging me ever since I got the G25, but how the hell does the stick have a reverse gear? I know it has the layout on top of the lever, but anytime you shift up into the far right gear (presumably 5th), there is no way for the gear lever to come down, move right, and then down again. Coming down from 5th only goes into 6th....

Maybe I'm just being stupid & Logitech did that for visual pleasure, but it makes me feel like I'm driving a car with a broken reverse gear. :indiff::dunce:

that layout is misleading.
you need to push down the shifter, just like you have to do to switch between sequential and H shift patterns.

I always hear its 100% compatible with Porsche Turbo S wheel.

To make sure, FANATEC guy is here on the forums, find him and send him GTPlanet mail , he will confrim it.

But from my understating Clutch and H shifter works with that wheel and GT5P

Thanks

Yeah as grog said it is misleading but some real cars show the same layout, you push down on the shifter (down as in towards the ground, not back) then put it in the position which would normally be 6th gear.
