I am just curious how many right foot vs left foot brakers we have here. I am sure left foot brake & right foot gas is going to be the majority. Personally I have always used my right foot for both.

I know it slows me down but it doesn't feel natural to use my left foot for braking unless I am in a go kart. I learned how to drive in a real car before I started sim racing, so the only time we would use left foot braking is when doing a burnout or drift maneuvers haha never in grip racing.

Left foot allll the way. Even if I'm on a PC sim now, I map the clutch to a wheel button on my G27 so I have both feet free to rest over both pedals. I was running in GT5 for the first few months and got frustrated with my lack of pace at certain tracks (especially tracks with fast corners) so as soon as I heard some one say left foot braking takes time off I was there. Felt really strange at first, for maybe a week all really, but then I adjusted my pedals a bit and never looked back, instantly cut off a half a second to a full second off my best times in SGT cars around a track like Suzuka.

I highly recommend people make the switch as it makes you able to respond much quicker and tone down your use of the pedals to not overwork them as much, it becomes obvious with you dancing the pedals around a lot, to become a much smoother driver with inputs.

Another thing that came to mind before making the switch was, "hey if I can go indoor karting and left foot brake fine then this shouldn't be a problem at all."

Well maybe i need to try it lol. Im a right footer only for sure. Half second faster would be real nice for 8-5 gta right now, that would put me 1st US lol i doubt it does that for me though.

Just FYI, I chased your ghost lap all night long and the closest I got was right on your back bumper. That's after 3 hours of work. You got one hell of a run out of the last corner coming to the green, so by the time I was braking for turn 1, you were already a car length ahead. Caught up to turn 4 and then you pulled away again as I can't figure out 4&5 for the life of me. Rest of the lap I could just hang on, maybe gain a little here or there. Finally gave up after hitting the turn 4 cones for the hundredth time. :yuck:

Turn 4 and 5 drive me nuts, i will keep starting over and over until i nail that section. But even when i do nail that section i still lost half a car or so to 1st in US. But im gonna give the left foot braking sometime today and see how it feels, maybe i will be able to roll back to throttle just a touch faster since i wont be taking my right foot off gas paddle.

I'm a left foot braker. I also own a kart that I race on occasions when I have the money, but that's not very often. I couldnt imagine right foot braking in game. Seems to me that would be to much going on with my feet to go fast.

I will tell you what i just spent half hour seing what left foot braking felt like with game and it feels way too weird. I would continue to do it but im scared of how long it might take me to get use to it if i even do. So im gonna stick with my right foot gas brake combo.

right foot for both for me...

I never brake with left foot in a real car so.. but i guess reacceleration are maybe bettre with left foot braking

Left foot braker here, too.

I always have done when using a sequential gearbox.

It's just seems more natural.

Same here man, I just can't get over the awkwardness. I am just glad there is a fast right foot braker out there. I think if you could get left foot braking down you could be a tad smoother just from having to do less footwork, leaving less room for errors.

I agree i think it would also help me get the tiny edge getting back to throttle in every corner. But scared to put the time in doing it. I might try after this competition, but for now ill stick with my right foot. Dont want to take a chance of wasting all my time left in competition and never get the hang of it.

Using a DFGT so two feet and two pedals. Seemed the obvious thing to do is use right foot to accelerate and left foot to brake.

I'm sure if I was using a three pedal rig I'd right foot brake.

I made the switch from right to left maybe a year ago, It is better for gettin on the gas or brake quicker. Also I find myself using both gas and brake at the same time sometimes. Basically just edging off some speed in certain situations.

But my left ankle/ top of foot area hurts from always hanging my foot over the brake. Because I don't wanna rest it on the brake and risk a bit of input. I have g27 with nixim mod.

Already voted last night, but left obviously. It can be faster in many situations and just feels more natural with the DFGT. Doesn't feel weird to me switching back and forth from my real car.

I'm a right foot breaker who is a left foot want to be! There are situations where simultaneous gas and brake can smooth out the handling as stated above and that's my reason for planning to switch. But as King found out the transition feels terrible... I drive a stick in real life and the left foot is just programmed for the clutch and these old muscles don't forget easy.

In Academy I use left foot braking. In GT5 I normally use left foot braking and stick shift (TH8RS) - right foot braking for corners with downshifts and left foot braking for areas of the track without a downshift or where I want to use both throttle and brake at once. It felt very odd at first, but I learnt using the GT5 endurance races.

Bear in mind I am not fast compared with people on this site, but just enjoy the game. I would never use left foot braking in a real car - too much risk of an accident!

I just tried the left foot braking again there were times i could see how i was faster but was so inconsistent and my ankle was killing me lol. So i went back to right again and just sped my right foot up on switching pedals. Worked out beat my time by a tenth up to 12th US for now.

See thats how I am, I tried it in iRacing then just went back to right foot braking. I figure unless I will ever drive a car IRL that has no clutch then left foot isnt gonna help me much. For sim racing though I kind of wish it came more natural too me. Old habits die hard!

I learned on and still drive manual so left foot is natural for me. For that matter, I can't see how anyone feels right foot braking is natural on an auto, you have two feet, you have two pedals, sounds natural to me :sly:

Real life and GT5 I brake with my right foot. Think its just a natural feeling being brought up that way and only using my left foot for a clutch. I'm sure I could learn left foot braking but at this point it'll probably just make me worse for the time it took to get that natural feeling with left foot braking.

Used a DFP in GT4 and used left. Haven't played GT5 with anything but a G27 and my first instinct was to use right, which is obviously the same IRL. I have thought about left in GT5 but I don't play everyday but do drive my car everyday. That will always override GT5 brain.
