RIP compUSA 1984-2008

Don't try Levitz either. They're going too.

Thats really too bad. Have you tried other electronics stores?

CompUSA was terrible anyway. Worst return policy and customer service ever.

They were just kinda there. I haven't been in one of their stores in years. I'm not that surprised.

Good luck finding another job though!

I always thought CompUSA was cool. I bought Test Drive Unlimited, GT3, and several other games there. Even my iTrip.

Wow I thought CompUSA went under last year. All of their stores moved out of my area, which allowed me to get some pretty awesome deals on computer stuff. I never really cared for the store though, I didn't like the way they were laid out and the employees at the one that was near me didn't really know as much as they probably should have to be working at a computer store.

Our CompUSA closed during the closing weeks of the summer before school started, and there were some pretty sweet deals, but I never took advantage of them.

The thing was, CompUSA was hit-or-miss on a lot of stuff. They had good deals on computer parts quite often, but very rarely were they any better than Circuit City or Best Buy when it came to anything else. They were one of the only stores that carried Apple products for quite some time, and that was very nice, but outside of that, I rarely, if ever, had a reason to be there.

It sucks to see a major franchise go, particularly for all those employees, but poor management on all levels of operation eventually killed them.

Want a good job?

See if you've got a Steve and Barry's near by, we're always hiring, and given that we're one of the fastest-growing retailers in the country, it would be hard to lose your job unless you really truly suck at it.

...Otherwise, I've always wanted to work for UPS or FedEx. Maybe give that a shot?

Bye-bye!

I can't even remember the last time I've inside my local CompUSA. Been in there a few times, and I also thought it was one of the worst stores around.

Good luck to the OP on the job hunt though.

I've had lousy customer service on both occasions I've tried to shop at CompUSA. All the fingers of responsibility pointed at each other when they mis-labeled merchandise and sale items, and nobody stepped up to make me a returning customer (or even a paying one). Best Buy or Wal*Mart might be mediocre in customer service, but they're a veritable Ritz-Carton compared to CompUSA's treatment.

Sorry to hear about your job loss, opendriver19a. At least you've been given warning, so get out there while you can. So something related to your interests: personal/future career.

I used to buy little stuff at CompUSA. I went in once to buy about $3500 worth of computers, and while they treated me pretty well, they didn't even come down to the same ballpark as I could get from a big mailorder house.
