Rituals or habits when playing GT7

I was just pondering about what manufacturer I'm going to pick for the upcoming GTWS season and the thought crossed my mind that I've picked up a number of silly habits over the last few years since I got into Gran Turismo Sport, some of which have practically become rituals at this point.

I figure it could be amusing to share them to see whether I'm alone with these or if anyone has some silly habits of their own they want to share.

  • I call signing up for a manufacturer the "handshake of doom". Can't recall what first prompted that but I think it might have been a comment someone made on here. Whatever it was, it stuck and I've been doing it for quite a while now!
  • When the sign up period for a GTWS opens, I almost always end up sending a GIF to a friend on Discord expressing my nerves. Usually something like "I don't wanna", "Aaaaarrggghh" or "Nooooooooo".
That has led to some amusing situations such as...
Season 5 No GIF by The Office

...being followed up about an hour later with this without anything else said inbetween after it went better than expected.

  • I frequently refer to most of the MR manufacturers as "death machines" in conversation rather than their actual names because I'm terrible at keeping them from killing me. Bonus point to Ferrari which is forevermore also known as the s🅱️inalla in my head. I had hell with the Gr.3 when I tried a season as Ferrari back in GTS and thus fully embraced the F1 meme!
  • Pit stops that involve changing worn tyres must be preceded by vocally exclaiming "BONO MY TYRES!!!" at some point during the in-lap.
  • I absolutely must have a custom livery on my car for every GTWS race unless the event completely prevents it. Going in as a "stock noob" is forbidden!

I 100% agree with this! There is just something about seeing the grid with all different looking cars. It makes it feel like a real race. Even a blank solid color livery is better than stock. I don't understand why you would wouldn't put a livery on it especially for the manufacturer series....they give you the car!

I can understand for the Nations series if you do not have the car....

For me playing GT7 in the first place is a ritual. Only when a new Lap Time Challenge rolls around, OR if I really have a craving for testing a new car.

I'm rank A right now, so when entering a new race, count how many other A drivers are there... It means the ideal (for me) would be beating them all.

Of course this worked somewhat in B, not really now in A grids and impossible when reaching A+ lol

Ps. It has nothing to do with how DR is calculated, it's just a mind game...

Anyway, to answer OP's question:

-First thing I do when I fire up the game is look in the LCD and UCD.

-For online play only (1P I don't care as much) my cars must have their own liveries. Often I'll d/l one I like and then edit it, if for nothing else to change the number (99% of the time I use 16) and change the color of the mirrors. That's so, just in case someone else in the race is using the same livery we'll look like teammates rather than two people who happened to d/l the same livery. Even across my three accounts I won't use the same livery on all three. Again, if nothing else I'll use a different number (67 & 29 are next in line) and change the color of the mirrors just to differentiate. Some of the liveries I like don't have a number, but that is a must for me so I'll find somewhere to put one.

The car must also have single hub wheels because the pit crew only hits one lug during the tire changes, ala F1 style and not NASCAR five-lug-pattern style (although I do believe even NASCAR is one, center lug now). If it's a Gr car, it has to have a number and single, center lugs.

-On road cars (say, for race A) I am always number 167 or 716 where the seven is either blue or green. Why? Well, when I started doing track days in real life (though NASA) one of the requirements was you needed magnetic numbers for your car. So, I bought a pair of 1s and 6s to use 16, that were white because my car was black. However, after arriving on the first day they wanted a three digit number. I didn't have another number to add but I did have some painters' tape so I taped the number 7 on the side of the car. I never did buy another magnetic number and would just use this trick all the time. The painters' tape comes in light blue or green and it was just a crapshoot as to whether I would put the 7 before the 16 or after it.

I then starting putting the number 4 on the rear window, as I had in real life (didn't think of this until a few months back). This was to indicate that I was a level 4 DE driver (highest you could go) and I did not require a wave-bye to pass. Might seem odd to have a number on the side and a different one on the back but that is how it was laid out at the real events.

-Road cars get 5 lug wheels. And, I will try to do something to them to differentiate them slightly from the OEM look as, again, I don't want my car to look like everyone else's. Typically, that's just changing the color, wheels, or body stuff (ie, wing) to non-OEM stuff. Nothing crazy though and nothing I wouldn't do in real life. Like the Ferrari above, got some lower body work, a new color, suspension, Brembos, and black wheels. I didn't put a wing on it because it looked ridiculous and I would never do that to a real Ferrari.

I have an Aston VGT that lives on Tokyo expressway, I refuse to drive it anywhere other than the WTC grind event, and a couple of time trials on the same track layout. Last I checked it's at like 5700-ish miles.

On Friday nights I race 1v1 against a friend online, kind of an extension of back in our fighting game days where I hosted a local gathering at my apartment a bunch of friends attended every Friday night to play a bunch of fgs.

At the end of my gaming sessions I usually select a random car from my list and spend a few minutes checking it out in the VR showroom

Setting my earbuds/music & over the ear BT headphones/race to the exact ratio (60 music/40 race) then choosing what playlist I want to hear for at least 1 straight hour.. then & only then is it time to go-go!.. oh, and of course the complimentary 2 shots between races, gotta keep the mind right.. LoL!

I still check the UCD and LCD every day after it updates to see what’s new even though I have at least 2 of every car in UCD (pre 2001 MY) and all but 3 LCD cars I don’t plan on buying.

I still make myself get the daily marathon ticket before doing anything else even though they’re essentially pointless for me now that I can just buy all the engine swaps and S Parts. It’s nice to see 100k, 500k and 1M prizes but its usually 10k and 30k or an invite.

Muscle memory takes me to Retry -> Car Settings before leaving the post race screens so that I don’t have to deal with oil changes or performance loss over time.

Other than that I don’t think I have any habits, rituals or otherwise OCD tendencies. I just pick a car or event that I feel and have at it.

Good evening. Have a good race. Good luck!
Pretty much the same in GTWS (Or previous FIA) I would always wish people good luck between qualy and the race.
And of course I would congratulate the winner of the race after.

Also I have to have 6 on my car unless the game overrides it.

I always check the nightly ucd/lcd inventory updates via phone browser almost at the same time each night.

First races of the day will be Turbo/Porsche/Ferrari events until ticket earned.

After that I just randomly do events as time permits.

If I'm doing Tokyo, then I'm always listening to Eurobeat or Future Funk.

If I'm doing Le Mans/Sardegna/Spa, than it's usually rock, eletronic or pop. Sometimes all of this can be from a single game, like Midnight Club or NFS.

I like to tune my cars on the Nurburgring GP circuit because it feels great for testing the dynamics of the cars.

And now on GT7 I also take my fastest street cars turned race cars to Sardegna Circuit C to set a hot lap with RS tires. I like the short length of the circuit for testing, good speed, strong braking zones, and rewards well balanced cars that can put their power down.

I also like to take pictures of the car in scapes/on track once the livery is done and post them with the livery.

Start up the game - rotate my wheel to full lock to the right, then to the left, then back to center. Press hard onthe brake, then the throttle. - Enter game settings - clear network cashe - Enter wheel calibration, rotate wheel full lock right, left, center, then press pedals again - Go back to main menu - Ready to race!
(Ofc Im 99.9% sure none of this makes any diffrence at all, and serves no purpose other than calming my superstitions)
