Rivals Mode - only with xbl gold?

Hello,

can anyone confirm that the rivals mode in forza 4 is available to all players like it is in the FM4 demo? In my mind, online play functionalities are generally limited to paying customers, or am i wrong?

Online racing in general is XBL Gold only, so is the storefront and auction house.
I think all you can get without gold is DLC and updates.
They should give you a month of gold for free, and then you have another month for $1. That's what they did to me at least.

Are you sure about that. Auction house and storefront required gold in FM3. Also you could send gifts without gold but couldn't upload them when you received them. I have gold at the moment so I don't know how it works in FM4 but I would be surprised that they changed all of that.

I tried with my alternate account which is silver and it seems you can only buy things from the storefront, uploading appears to need gold.

Rivals mode does work with silver.

I dont have gold yet and tried some Rivals today. I tried the monthly rivals and the Hockenheim (sorry about the spelling..) dragstrip, on that track you can choose any car with 500hp at the most and european sedan car etc..
But i can only choose from the cars presented before the race, not one of my own...!!
Is it because i dont have gold or what?

What happens when you try one of the events which is open to any car like Open Time Attack? If they specifically mention a car in the description like with some of the events then you have to use the one they provide.

Then I'm stumped too, sorry. Do you get the garage icon if you scroll all the way to the left of the car selection on any of the rivals events like say Autocross?

Just to cover all bases, MrGoose, you do have a European sedan that meets the restrictions for the event, right? I can't log onto XBL here and I don't remember if there are any restrictions beyond "European, 4 doors, <=500hp" but you can always hit "X" to check the restrictions on an event. Sometimes the description doesn't mention all of them.

I've now got the gold membership and can choose cars from my garage!!
So you need to have gold to be able to do that, damn rivalmode is fun!!
