Lately i have become an AMG believer. So while looking through the Used car list, i came across the Mercedes CLK 55 AMG. The CLK has a 5.5L V8 that comes stock with 347hp and 376ft-lbs of torque. The car looked the part with a slitghy lowered body and special AMG wheels.A race version of the CLK 55 AMG participates in Germany's famous DTM series, proving to all that this car belongs more on a race track than on public roads.
Out of the Box
After the initial purchase, i gave the CLK a quick bath, engine rebuild and topped it off with fresh oil. Then it was out to Laguna Seca. Attaching the Sports Soft tires and coming around the starting corner, i knew it was gonna be a squirly, very fun car to drive , after two laps my time was 1.44.612. Now it was time for something i like to call "Pro Mod 450hp Class"
Get your Mod on!
I started with the body, and boy did it have some weight on her.
Body: Weight reduction Stage 3
Window Weight Reduction
Chassis Reinforcement
Fully Custom Suspension
Then the motor was worked over
Engine: Engine Tuning Stage 1
Sports intake Manifold
Racing Air Filter
Sports Exhaust Manifold
Catalytic Converter Sports
Sports Exhaust
Now it was time for the transmission and drivtrain
Drivetrain: Fully Custom Transmission
Twin-Plate Clutch
Semi-Racing Flywheel
Adjustable LSD
Carbon Drive Shaft
Ending Result is a staggering 442hp@5800RPM and a weight of 1,318
Pro Mod 450hp Class is a nice custom class i have made for some good friendly competition with the local friends. The rules are Simple 450 maximum horsepower and at least a weight above 1,100Kg and the tires are a Sports Soft.
The CLK was gonna be the sleeper, the car that my buddies wouldn't imagine to be a race ready machine. After the mods I went back out to Laguna, where it managed to 136.933, now it was an OK time, but it needed a little more. So I contacted the guys over at RKM motorsports to help me get an edge over the other competitors. After a few brief hours the car was delivered back to me as a whole new animal. Holding tight exiting corners and keeping it together during excessive braking were the top improvements. Spending some time getting to know the new best was great times were very consistent and when pushed hard on the 6th lap i ran a 1.35.364 and an unofficial time of 1.34.896 after a controversial penalty on the grass :grumpy:.
get to the Point already!
Well, the CLK proved a great competitor for the Pro Mod series, in fact it has an unofficial time at Nur' of 7.28.92 with 2 mishaps. RKM did a fantastic job tuning this AMGand would recommend them to anyone on this board, great guys and i hope to do some more work with them later.

I actually added the reinforcement while I was tuning it, found it to help noticeably. ;)

Thanks for the kind words man. 👍

the mods you listed, are those your mods before RKM took over, or are they of RKM's?

He built the car, we tuned it.

I also installed the chassis stiffening to make it a bit more secure and allow me to get it to actually corner. You'll have to ask him for the exact settings though as I didn't actually write them down before returning it.

if possible, kennygt, would you be able to post/pm me the final tunings? i just bought this car and my gut was telling me this had potential. i mean after seeing the CLK63 AMG black series

I have a CLK AMG '00 sitting in my lot right now, I'd be happy to try it out if someone gave me the tune. :3
