Well guys to kick off the Nascar season we are headed back to Sunset Peninsula (more on that one later). We will be running the 2.44 mile Oval configuration using what else? Nascar's's's

Free Race/Hot Laps
Circuit: Sunset Peninsula
Cars: (PI)Ford Stock Car (714)
Chevy Stock Car (715)
Dodge Stock Car (713)
Assists: Anything goes personal preference.
Transmission: Again personal preference.
Rules: Anything which invalidates your lap (exclamation mark next to time) is not allowed.
Tuning is allowed where the cars allow, you may discuss and share setups and setup tips.

PM me your best time, New Submission Format:
Name - Time - Car
Frizbe - 13:905 - VW Beetle

New submission format is to help streamline the results for me. Thank you.
you have until 11:59 PM MST (-7 GMT) on the 15th of February to do this. I will accept only one laptime to save my inbox from confusion of having more than one time from people. If you could also state in your final PM if you are using a pad or a wheel.

P.S. I found out that if you go into Multiplayer>Private Race and then set the AI cars to 7 you can run your own personalized Endurance race. Perfect for getting to know the track and it also fattens that wallet a bit ;)

P.P.S. I forgot to look ahead when we ran the road configuration of the same track, this should be as close as two configurations will come in the schedule, originally it was going to be the Benchmark tri-oval but at nearly 1.5 miles longer than Daytona I think this is a better fit. :dopey:

I'm having a problem with my PC, just done a temporary fix but should be able to login on the PS3 if it fails again.

Time submitted. I just get no joy trying to make smooth high speed turns with the way T10 has programmed the std controller's analog stick. Literally a fraction of a degree of tilt will change the car's attitude from barely arcing too wide to tightening the turning radius so much that I lose speed because the tires are scrubbing. Forget that.

this is my first time doing this, so could someone give me a time I should be shooting for? I know the best, but lol.... Someone with more experience thrown out a number that would be respectable so I have something to shoot for.

Welcome!<44 Second.

crap! lol... 45.235 I think is the best I've gotten so far lol. wow I have a lot of work to do to shave off more than a second!!!

If I uploaded a video you, do you think you could critique a few laps I have?

edit:

I'm going to go ahead and upload the video. I'm taking the wife and kids to a movie and dinner. It should be done after a while. I won't have the link till I get home so just check my channel periodically if you don't mind.

I've just started the upload.

yeah, i find myself "tap tap tap tap"ing the stick as opposed to smooth or steady steering inputs because the car will want to spin if i don't.

45 is about right if you have not tuned the car, if you do some tuning to make it faster you will be good to go buddy:tup:

oh ok.. this is the stock car.. just purchased it when I saw this thread. Anyways.. the videos are up. One in car view of a few laps, then a replay of all 10 laps.
You mentioned tuning... I've never done it before lol. What should I do?

Some nice videos there F34R. Are they done with a capture card or PVR?

You should be using the Free Play/Hot Lap on the main menu as you could get some slipstream from those other cars to improve your time. Also, these cars are to be run at the stock PI level so you don't have to buy the 3 cars to test but its nice to buy and put a nice Livery on. Just select them from the manufacturer within hotlap mode instead of buying all 3 and buy the best one if you like.

At the track menu, you can select Tune Setup and adjust the tyre pressures, ride height, gear ratio etc.

Thanks. I use a Hauppauge 1212 PVR. I guess I coulda just hot lapped the car and not spent the credits on it lol. /facepalm lol

As far as the tuning goes, I really don't know ANYTHING about the effects of tire pressure, ride height and gear rations, will have on the car. I guess I'll need to search for a 101 on that stuff. I've only just begun to get into racing, and really try and learn. Previously, I've always just used manual and a full line lol.

I've had a lot of fun so far. Thanks for the replies. I'm welcome to ANY advice.

I'm new to Forza too but have tuned in many other games and real experience but I find every game has differences and tricks to get the best out of the cars. Not sure yet what all the tricks are or things that work best.

On the track I think you should be much closer to the inside. Tuning look at tyre pressure, gear ratio and downforce. Just experiment and see what works. The game gives a brief description on tuning but a lot of that I feel is for other tracks and cars. The oval is kinda straight forward with this PI level.

More downforce makes the car slower on the straights but helps you carry more speed while cornering. Remove all the downforce and do some laps.

If you're on the right path you should be well into the 43's.

I would think dropping the wings all the way down to their minimum values would be the biggest benefit. Well that combined with driving as low on the track as possible without scrubbing off speed. So pretty much what chromatic already suggested.

@thatman - I assume that's the credits you received from doing a private race? Or is it a drift score?

I got into the 42's although I was mainly testing wheel settings and swapping the degrees of rotation.

Without taking tuning into account - in an oval situation you can be neater with a wheel but other tracks it seems the joypad and driveFX wheel (which is just a joypad according to Logitech) is the most effective controller.
