Ive been scouring the interwebs for the past week and havent found any solution to this, so
My roommate and I have been trying to set up port forwarding on our Netgear WGR614v7 router. We can set everything up in the browser interface, but when any port checking website is used, it says the ports are closed. This is confirmed by us not being able to use the ports as intended (e.g., he needs to set one up to host a game server, and hes unable to host at all).
Regular internet and chat applications work just fine.
Before you write anything, heres a list of things weve already tried:
- The cable modem is not a router and therefore is not causing a double NAT layer and does not have UPnP.
- Weve tried this with our computers both set to DHCP and to manually set static IP addresses, including IP addresses outside of the DHCP range.
- The router and modem have both been restarted numerous times.
- Weve tried using both 16-bit and 32-bit values for the forwarded ports.
- Ive tried running my computer as a DMZ server.
- My computer has its firewall disabled (and Im sure he tried adding the relevant service to his firewall).
Any ideas?
