I need a good RPG. Has anyone heard of anything good or something that is supposed to come out? Eversince I lost Tech TV to premium cable, I've lost everything! Help please. Thanks in advance.

God you suck, also clear out your bloody PM inbox.

PSX rpg's (they work on the PS2 as well dumbass Omar)
Final Fantasy 4 & 5 (they come together and they should be cheap)
Final Fantasy 6 (Owns much ness)
Chrono Trigger (Yeah!)
All the previous games are SNES conversions, but they are still better than some of the newer RPG's out today.
Final Fantasy 7 (My personal favorite)
Xenogears (Well if you like anime giant robots, a cracking storyline and great battles this is for you! look out for it, apparently it's quite hard to find now)
FF8 (If you can't find any of the other games try this)
FF9 (If you can't find any of the other games including FF8 try this)
Grandia (Never played it but people have told me its good)

PS2 RPG's
Grandia 2 (Very Enjoyable but simple, but it has a good battle system)
Grandia Xtreme (Dunno if it's out yet)

Anyway I reccomend that you look for Xenogears it is ****ing excelent. If not go for FF7 or the older FF games.

The PS1 also has the complete Lunar Stories, and all the Arc the Lad games as well.
If you want a little action RPG, get Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. It's fairly short and will only take about 10 hours to finish your firt time through but it has a good deal of replay value. It's the only game I've played more than 2 times in the last 10 years.
Suikoden 3 is actually very good too, as is Wild Arms 3 (not as good as Suikoden 3 though.)
Okage: Shadow King is entertaining, and feels like a Tim Burton movie with a better sense of humor. That should be available at a good price too.
Otherwise, he's got the major's listed.
My reccomendation is, if you want a great RPG, and have a long attention span (it has a massive story, and requires lots of reading later on.) Play Xenogears for the PS1. There are things in that game that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
It's part 5 in a series, and Xenosaga is coming out next month (which I believe is the first game in the series of 7 or 9.)

Well I am a big squaresoft fan.

I am replaying Xenogears at the moment, I just rescued Margie and I am heading off to Nisan. Great game, great music, great plot but unfortunately it is the only game that I have fell asleep playing (well more than once anyway, I do remember falling asleep while playing FF6 and waking up with the damn thing still being on). I saw a review on wild arms 3 and I thought it looked quite good, with the cell shading and all but it got hammered by all the reviewers here. The lunar series never came out in the uk and I never really thought of trying out the Suikoden series but they are meant to be pretty good.

One other RPG comes to mind at the moment, Skies of arcadia. I had it on my dreamcast and I realy got into it, I heard that it was going to come out on the Gamecube and i'm not too sure about PS2. I am going to borrow someones Dreamcast to play it.

I am just wondering if anyone else feels that the Final fantasy series is going downhill?
I know allot of people who don't seem to like ff9 and although FF10 was praised by many, I just found it shallow and far too linear, for gods sake it didn't even have a proper world map.

Uh, well I don't know maybe I just like FF7 and XG too much.

Skies of Arcadia was good on the Dreamcast, and the Gamecube is getting a pumped up version with extra content, and characters. (Plus graphics, but probably not too much in that department.) It's also been canned for the PS2.
I also agree with what you are thinking about final fantasy, but I do understand why things are going in the direction that they are. The complexity of 3d modeling is getting more and more time consuming as technology adds newer effects and more complex models.
The byproduct of this is that games are getting shorter and less likely to have the immersive worlds of "yester-year."
A good example is GT3 A-Spec VS GT1 and GT2. Cars in 1 and 2 took between 2 days and a week to create while GT3's cars took 2 weeks to better than a month to create. If GT3 had as many cars as GT2, it probably wouldn't have been released until summer 2004.

The suikoden series of games is a good place to start, I finished no 3 a couple weeks ago itwas a good 70/80 hrs. The storys good and the battle system different from your usual. xenogears is a must play IMO for any seriouse fan of the genre, i finished replaying that just before the holidays...great game. FF Tactics is another I would reccomend , although its a hibrid its got a good story compelling characters and if you immerse yourself in the job system the replay value is phenominal. star Ocean for the ps one is another underated title.

I don't know, maybe it's just me,but I happened to love playing Legend of Legaia 2 (Legaia: Duel Saga) for Playstation 2 ^_^,I was soooo hooked onto that game,I just thought it was/and still is,really enjoyable =D.

0_0,I just read your last sentance Led,and I...don't believe that's true...if you're talking about Star Ocean: The Second Story, then you are badly mistaken.Of course this is just my opinon, but still...I played that game so much I got my main character and Rena past level 250!Surprising part about it is,which freaks my friends out the most,is that I only beat the game with the main character and Rena ^_^,every time the other people would ask to join my "party",I would refuse. The only time I would take them with me is when I HAD to,or in other words, forced to...but afterwards when they got so used to being in your "party",they would ask to join, then that's when I would refuse.I guess that's just me though,I always like sticking with the main characters and not using my other characters if I get any,or have to get any ^_^,some people think I'm crazy because of that, but I think of it as a better challenge to the game =D.

P.S. oh yeah, another pretty cool RPG for the PS2 would be a game I beat in like,32 hours,28 minutes, and 42 seconds..and that was Shadow Hearts ^_^,I REALLY got into that game as well, but maybe that's just me,cause I've heard that most people didn't like that game too much, but I know I sure as hell did :P

Most of the ps2 and psx games I was thinking of were already mentioned. I will recommend a different and very underrated game. Most no one has heard of it Im sure.

Its called the Way of the Samurai. It recieved high praise from gamecritics.com and I agree with them. (that site btw is probably one of the best for game reviews. they have no influesnce from the large game companies and dont fall for the hype of big games. they would have no trouble giving ff10 a 6 or 7 rating and other games lower. egm says that a 5 is an average rating, but i find that totally untrue. the only time they rate that low is for horrible games. on gamecritics they rate games in the 4-6 area al the time. it is a very honest site and I like it. :) )

The game is by the people that made the original tenchu games. It is an RPG in the way that you can do pretty much anything you want. It also includes an okay tenchu like fighting engine. (it gets frusterating to me but i suppose if i put in time and master it, it will all come naturaly) It is basically a choose your own adventure in a small town in the time after the samurai no longer play a part in the way politics in japan work. (think "Yojimbo") Central government is taking over and they seem to be corrupt. there are 2 main clans in this town. you can join either side or neither. you can basically do anything. while talking to people you can pull out your sword, no problem, its not like ff games, so linear.

there are probably around 15 different endings. each path you can probably finish in one sitting. the fun of the game is playing over and over and trying to get the different endings. you can also collect items and get rewards and a rating every time you finish a game, whether you die or actually get to an ending.

Anyway, highly recommended for something different. It has a cool fighting engine implemented so you would probably get less bored playing this than a square type game. I think you can find it at best buy for around $20. Well worth it.

Not by you or by me but generally in all of the reviews and commentary its either barely mentioned or dissed. I love the game..decent story great battle system , skills customization , creating item etc. The game deserves more than its gotten as far as reveiws IMO.
