Has anyone been able to tame it's power? The car has crazy oversteer even without it's turbo on. I thought I'd be a decent drifting machine because It always wants to be sideways. the car is really good at holding a drift but is to wicked on entry and exit of drifts. The car will wip really hard side to side when you try to exit a drift and is difficult to get going straight. Anyone got a tune that makes this car drivable?
BTW this car is doing this with racing medium tires which I find unbelievable

Bought the car last night to complete my Ruf collection (I still need the RGT). I like this car the most out of the Rufs I have because it has the most character, but the most driveable would be the CTR2. The Yellowbird handles better then the BTR and is a lot faster, but I like the challenge of the BTR.

I got the chassis stiffening, full weight reduction, full custom suspension, lsd, spoiler (all mods basically, but these are the ones that will affect your control). Horsepower is about 680 iirc. Downforce is set to 20 (max).

I set my rear toe in (positive?) to +1.00 and my front toe out (negative?) to -.15. Lowered front and rear equally, rear stiffening, springs, shocks are set higher than front. No camber. The big thing is setting that rear toe in aggressively, it may be unrealistic but it makes the car drivable.

LSD is set to 40/50/30 I think. I run either 0 or 1 traction control, but racing softs are 100% essential. Sport hards do not have enough grip.

I ran a 1:35 on Trial Mountain, which is where I test my cars. Thats about the same time I got with the Ferrari F40 and 1-2 seconds slower than the Ruf CTR2.

Its a fun car and the model and textures are better than the yellowbirds.

I have a technique which I've tried on the RGT with very good results, which may work with the BTR (I'll test it later):
- look up the real-world 930 Porsche 911 Alignment and spring specs
a google search got the settings as:
Front +5' Toe (~+0.08deg), -1 degree Camber; Rear +15' Toe (+0.25deg), -1.4 degree camber; Front Spring ~4.8; Rear Spring ~5.7 (these are my best guess as 80's era Porsches don't have coil springs, these are the settings from the 964 Turbo, which should be close enough)
On the RGT similar alignment settings are used and it makes the steering a bit heavy but very, very tight, you can lighten the steering by moving down the front toe a little bit. The real world springs might be too soft in both front and rear, I increased the them by around 20% in my setup on the RGT

- using a full-custom suspension set the car as closely to the specs as possible

- add 1 notch of front anti-sway, 1 notch of rear anti-sway

- lower the front to be 10mm lower than the rear. (real porsche recommended ride height is similar)

- test and make tweaks

I was really surprised how well the RUFs conform to real-world Porsche specs and how much easier they are to drive afterwards. The RGT was transformed from a decently fast car to a high-powered go kart. It's so stable I can stamp on the throttle mid turn and just rocket out.

I am a huge porsche nut, owned a beater 924 when I was young.

Yeah, the 1 degree of toe is totally unrealistic IMO but it was the only way I could drive the car without driving aids and racing softs. I hate using traction control, ASM, ABS, and skid recovery. Gran Turismo 3 and 4 had awesome RGTs, I am waiting for one to show up in the used car lot. It had close to 1000 hp in the old game and I got about 1:10 on Laguna Seca in GT3 Aspec. My favorite car in that game.

The BTR is a Porsche 930, not a 993. The CTR2 is a 993TT AWD. The CTR Yellowbird is a 911 but looks like a 964. The RGT is a 996. Hope that clarifies.

I also love the BTR, it's one of the most fun cars to drive in the game. Lots of character.
I've got a tune that work well for me, i will post it once i find some free time (currently at work).

I made the corrections. I couldn't remember the model year for the BTR and made a guess. Not that it really changes much in the settings I recommended. The alignment between the 930 Turbo and the 993 are just about identical. Springs are the only problem with a 930 (it doesn't have them). I changed them to the values for a 964. I'm not sure how similar the suspensions of the 2 generations are, but I'm pretty sure the game isn't that detailed or else they'd actually have the suspensions set like the real cars from the beginning instead of some generic default which makes all cars handle like crap.

I wasn't a Porsche nut before, but these Rufs are starting to make a convert out of me.

Anyone have a good setup for the Yellowbird for the Wangen? (SSR7) First thing I did when I bought mine was paint it black. :)

After fiddling around, using the real world specs as a base and working out the masssive oversteer, I've developed a passable setup for the BTR. I think it is also a bit more realistic than ampire's in that it's a little less drastic with the toe. It's still a handful and requires a soft touch, but it's manageable. The only modification I made to the car was a fully adjustable suspension to get the settings dialed in.

With these settings I was able to drop below 1:37.0 on Trial Mountain (I think actually finishing a lap with the car is an achievement, making it around with a somewhat decent time is a bonus.) I'm pretty sure some tweaking can be done with the alignment and ride heights to get some more stability out of it, but this is a better base setup than the original suspension layout.

Brakes:
Front: 4, Rear: 2

Settings:
Height:
Front: -5mm, Rear: 0mm

Springs:
Front: 5.3, Rear: 6.0

Dampers (Ext, Comp)
Front: 6, 5
Rear: 7, 6

Anti Roll
Front: 7, Rear: 2

Camber:
Front: 0.5, Rear: 2.8
Toe:
Front: 0.08, Rear: 0.25

Me too! I'm a little disappointed you can't put a skyline motor in the 240Z, but at least you can make Blackbird.

Yeah, I remember this car from GT4. I hated it at first. Like someone else said, lots and lots of rear toe-in. I also ran the swaybars at 5/1 if I remember correctly. After that and a couple other tweaks it became one of my favorite cars! I can't wait to try it in GT5.

I just want to add the setup I derived for the CTR on the Wangan:
The car is fully modded up to 713hp with a High-RPM turbo. The transmission is stock. It's still a bit light and will kill you the first chance it gets, but the car can reach a top speed of 218mph in the tunnel and I was able to do SSR7 in under 4:50 on Sport Soft Tires (racing slicks are for cowards). The setup is very similar to the one I made for the BTR, which isn't a big surprise since they are based one the same car.

Brakes:
Front: 4, Rear: 2

Settings:
Height:
Front: -10mm, Rear: -5mm

Springs:
Front: 5.5, Rear: 6.2

Dampers (Ext, Comp)
Front: 6, 5
Rear: 7, 6

Anti Roll
Front: 7, Rear: 2

Camber:
Front: 1.0, Rear: 2.8
Toe:
Front: 0.10, Rear: 0.35

You could probably use this setup on the BTR to gain a little more overall grip.

Once I tried some porsche's on need for speed hot pursuit I was hooked, they are a joy to drive, plus they have a really neat history if you ever played NFS Porsche unleashed. I'd love to see them in GT5 just to have the sweet racecars and supercars like the 917 and Carrera GT

Thanks for the tunes guys, I'll give them a shot.

I tried out your tune stiggles and it smartened her up.
But I did the other amateur series in b-spec and got another BTR so if anyone wants to trade...

Used some pointers from this thread and tweaked. My tune was in stock form hp wise, racing soft (used as test on deep forest).

height: -35 -30
rate: 6.8 8.0
shocks: 5/5 6/6
roll bar: 5 5

camber: 1.0 1.5
Toe: 0.8 0.25

Car has just the right amount of oversteer when neutral in a corner. Punch the gas and she'll rocket out. I'm sure a few more tweaks are needed for stability, though it's pretty close.
