Recently discovered a tip to force your PC to output the foliowing resolution on a 3DTV :
  • 720p @ 120Hz
  • 1080p @ 120Hz
Obviously you need capable graphics card to push games at 120fps without sacrificing too much on quality. This have serious implications on lots of gamers such as myself who owns a EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0 4GB and play Assetto Corsa/Project CARS etc. on big screen TV.

Interesting, might give that a go later. Since I've got my PC hooked up to my TV via a Denon AVR-X2000 I'm not sure it will work, but one can try. :)

Update: If you have trouble getting 1080p@120Hz, create and use 720p@120Hz first and then create 1080p@120Hz. It worked for me doing this on my Panasonic Veira 42".

I used the same trick that you did to get my Sony tv to run at 120 Hz but it won't allow me to access game mode or any other mode and it and it feels like I'm getting some input lag with it. I don't have RRE.

That sucks without being able to use game mode. Not sure how old your tv is but have you tried another HDMI port? Some TVs do have limited modes for different Inputs. My Panasonic Veira is 5 years old and I was fortunate enough that it's very 3D/game friendly don't notice any/much lag. But occasional frame tearing like MGSV open-world places but hesitant to have V-Sync on which might cause input lag.

It's really great gaming experience at 120fps which made my PS4 pretty much gathering dust. Not to mention faster load times with SSD and cheaper games.

Anyway, you should check the comments from the original source link above and see if anyone have a workaround for the same issue. Alternatively, try Toasty's Custom Resolution Utility to re-enable those game modes for your TV.
