RX 8 liter?

It's a Twin Wankel Rotary isn't it? Low displacement...but it's still a very good engine.

most of you are wrong.

It's a 1.3L Rotary engine, producing 250hp normally aspirated. Now, consider the RX-7 RZ. 280hp out of the 1.3L Twin Turbo.

And in any engine, liter, or displacement, is just the volume that can go into the engine. In piston engines, normally it's the more = faster/more powerful. In Rotary engine, they are mostly the same. The RX-7, starting with the first gen GSL-SE, are 1.3L. The GSL-SE's 13B makes 138hp, N/A ofcourse. 2nd gen RX-7 Non-turbos made 142hp, and the Turbo IIs made 187hp, and the Infinis made 212 hp. 3rd gen RX-7s, the US model made 255hp, and the Japanese models made up to 280hp.

All out of a 1.3L, the world's most powerful engine per liter, the RX-7 RZ was 192hp/liter.

And yes, they are twin rotors. All of the Mazda rotaries, going back to the first mass produced rotary car, the Cosmo Sports, are 2 rotors. A rotary engine has to have atleast 2 rotors because one would vibrate the car to death, so 2 or more balance it out and makes the engine the smoothest running in the world.

Any further questions?

And do you want this thread moved to MAZ? I mean, Rotaries are Mazda only, cause the US companies couldn't figure them out...

Didn't Saab used to tune the crap out of its rally engines and get something crazy like 240 per litre?

I've never heard anything like that...It's possible, but if you think about it, 240hp/liter is a lot for any street car.

I know this guy who squeezed out 330hp from 1.6 liter Toyota Corolla engine with turbo:eek:. That's quite good too I think...

Ahem...

Aren't the group B 1980s rally cars about 250-300 hp a litre?

The WRC cars are 150 bhp a litre, the RX7 RZ has quite a high bhp/litre figure.

The average MotoGP 500cc motorcycle produces a little under 250hp, go figure! That's 500hp per liter, if I'm not mistaken...

Doesn't the Suzuki Hayabusha or something like that produce about 250 bhp a litre? (Out of the box)?

all very nice but check out the blitz skyline:
http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/cars/r348.html

345bhp per litre, thats what i call sweet :D

in fact any skyline engine modded to 1000hp will have more because an r34 engine is 2.5 litres if im not mistaken

I'm used to that :irked:

But let me let you in on a little secret :D
2nd gen RX-7 Non-turbos made 142hp,
They are restricted in the exhaust. Any homegrown (or aftermarket) exhaust without the pollution thingy will instantly give you 190Bhp... I'll find the article when I get home..

Well, in STL, we need the pollution thingy(the catalytic converter)because STL's emissions tests are pretty strict...

Though, that didn't stop my bro...he took his off of his MX-6...

in the may issue of SCC there is an article (technobable) about the new renesis engine and how by mazda's measurements, two stroke, is 1.3 liters while if you go by the four stroke method it measures out to be 2.6 liters.

No, i think the most powerful engine per liter was and still is the Honda S2000. Forgot the specs on it though. Was on the SPEED Channel.

I know how you feel Mazkid, STL has those emmisions tests. My dad hated those when we lived there. He just put on the filer when we had to go get the emissions checked, then when we got home he took them off  :P...

Wrong, that was on that Tuner show, and they didn't know crap. Thge S2000 is 120hp/liter, it's a 2 liter. Unless they weren't counting rotaries... :/

Yea, that's what a lot of people do here, my bro does it.

Sigh! I dream about the RX8 every night. And since I can't afford one, I'll just get myself a Mazda Lantis and equip it with a rotary engine... :D

Hey while you're at it, get me a Lantis too. We never got those over here, unfortunatly...

On a side note, anyone see the great appereance it made in X2. Damn, that car sounded and looked great. I say Oscar for best supporting prop! :D

The Lantis isn't available over there? It's got to be. It's also knows as the 1993 323F Coupe. I don't know why they call it a coupe but it's more like a 5-door hatchback.

Nope.

The Lantis is the European model, while the 323F is the Japanese one. The US only got the Protege, which is a distant relitive.

Haha!:D I don't think it's worth money to see the movie just for the car though, so I'll wait till it's on Dish or something. That's a good idea for a Oscar category. "In the category of best supporting prop in a movie: The Tour bus in Head of State, The RX-8 in X-men 2, (insert movie here cause I donno). And the winner is, the 2004 Mazda RX-8! *wild clapping, car pulls on stage at full revs*. Heh:lol:
