Saab goes green in Detroit
www.topgear.com
Saab is set to show off a 310bhp BioPower 9-5 concept car at the Detroit motor show.
The car uses an upgraded version of the company's environmentally friendly engine that runs on ethanol produced from sustainable resources.
The Detroit show car makes its debut just ahead of the 9-5 BioPower model going on sale in the UK.
The 180bhp 9-5 BioPower uses the same eco-friendly fuel as the concept car and can also run on normal unleaded fuel, or a mixture of the two different fuel types.
The 2.0 turbocharged Saab 9-5 BioPower is available to order now from £21,651.
Environmentally friendly and faster than a comparable model, the new Saab 9-5 BioPower Flex-Fuel can offer the best of both worlds.
The BioPower can run purely on renewable bioethanol, which is made from sugar cane and beet, so is completely sustainable.
The Saab uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that produces 180bhp when running on Bio-fuel. Mix that with petrol and power drops, and when running solely on petrol the engine turns out 150bhp.
You can buy a 9-5 BioPower from £21,651 for the saloon and £1200 more for the estate, and the first cars will arrive in the UK in January 2006.
