Saleen S281 Extreme 2005

Before 2000, Saleen was mostly known as a tuning company for Ford Mustangs, but that changed in 1996 when they introduced the S281. While most Saleen's heavily resembled production 'Stangs, this looked like an entirely different car.

The car had all new bodywork and a 4.6 V8 engine producing 220HP in the base model, going up to 550HP in the supercharged S281 Extreme.

The Extreme debuted in 2002 and featured a Saleen 4.6 SOHC V8 and an all new body. The car was updated in 2005 to adapt to the new 5th Generation Mustang, with the supercharged 4.6 V8 being upgraded to produce 550HP.

The S281E has been featured prominently in pop culture up until 2008, with a 2003 Saleen S281E making a cameo appearance in 2 Fast 2 Furious and a police variant being used for Barricade in Transformers while the car was also available in Forza 3 and Test Drive Unlimited, with it becoming the cover car of Midnight Club Los Angeles.
