Samsung Galaxy S6: Samsung has lost it.

I couldn't care less about waterproofing but the removable battery and SD slot are why I bought the S5. Not smart in my book, Samsung.

It's a shame. Samsung's waterproofing wasn't as nicely implemented as Sony's and most flagship phones still haven't given in to the Apple/Google SD crap, but losing the removable battery is a nasty hit. Still, with Samsung's recent motivation towards build quality increases I'm not too surprised.

Sealed everything, non replaceable everything, non expandable everything, forced obsolescence and unremarkable specs for the price. The mark of so many products today yet people lap it up. I would expect nothing less than a 7" 12 core curved passive 3D 4K OLED waterproof phone! Also the S6 looks seriously dated, that S3 look is so old fashioned now although the S6 Edge looks better.

I love having a removable battery because you can spread the wear across 2 or 3 batteries by alternating between them and you get longer daily usage time as a result.

Times are getting strange indeed. I remember products were all about quality, quantity then marketing. Now its all about marketing, quantity then quality. A simple example is the beats by dre. That headphones in terms of quality is no where even near the quality of my $150 Audio Technica yet I can go in mall and see a Beats for $500 and up. What's sad is almost every developer in technology is following the same business model. Lets get someone famous or make everything in the commercials look luxury and sophisticated, tweak old outdated specs but keep things limited and make it look up to date, manufacture 1,000,000 of it and eveyone will buy it. So said so done. Now everything is watered down and it looks like Samsung is starting to follow the trend.

Don't want to be that guy, but it looks like the iPhone 6. Seriously, even the side-facing speaker looks like the iPhone 6's speaker. And the side metal looks just like the iPhone 6.
The 2500 mAh non-removable battery and no SD slot are deal-breakers for me. Concerning the battery, I'm curious as to how that battery will handle the QHD AMOLED display. Judging from how efficient the Note 4's QHD AMOLED display is it might just work out but we're comparing 2500 mAh with 3100 mAh. Additionally QHD is really unnecessary at 5.1".

It'll be a shame if they make the Note series have a fixed battery, that'll mean that LG will be the last manufacturer making flagships with removable batteries (AFAIK).

I know their mobile division is one of those that are rumored to be in contention to get axed but I doubt it would be this soon, a shame really since they're making some of the best flagships in the past years(highest rated phones on gsm arena). It's a tough market for Sony but I hope they stick around.

There are quite a few other up and coming brands, mainly from China which have removable batteries and look like they will for the foreseeable future.

Well I just hope that samsung listen to their customers when it comes to the S7.
We want our SD card slot and removable battery back.

I cant see why they cant use the same idea for the SIM card when it comes to the SD card.

A removable tray, put the card in it, put tray in phone.

If it had an SD card I can kinda forgive the non removable battery.

The biggest gripe is, It looks like a bloody iphone 6.

They could have made it tapered like a trapezoid, it would have a look, that looks nothing like an iphone.

I wonder what apples response on this will be.

They have gone to court with samsung for rounded rectangles before, now a near copy of the iphone.

Any other similar priced brand with removable batteries currently in the market ?
The Blu phones are new and catching up. I currently have a Blu Studio SII that runs on a developer version of Andriod 4.4.2. It came out 2 years ago and has similar if not better specs than the recent iphone 6 and its almost as thin with a bigger screen. They still have Micro sd slot for expanding, dual sim card treys and removable batteries. You should check them out. I've had mine 6months now and pretty sure their latest phone is on par with the HTC M9.

It's a step backwards, what Samsung have done with the S6. Now just waiting for the lawsuit from Apple, as that looks too much like a iPhone.

I'm glad that I made the move to LG when I did and I'm not regretting it either. As I am liking my G3 more than any of the Samsung phones and phablets I have owned.

Two more terrible mistakes by samsung:

  • Stupidly, unnecessarily high screen resolution (QHD).
  • Battery is not large enough for such a high performance cell phone.

Battery time is probably the biggest problem with smartphones today and some brands do NOTHING to try and improve it, no, they focus more on putting in more processor cores and more screen resolution which is kind of dumb because it probably makes the battery last even less.

Samsung never had it in the first place. :P
Yeah, they had it when they released the S2, which was no doubt the best smartphone in the market at the time (clearly better than the Iphone) and then the S3 was a bit improved too.

Just slightly reminiscent of an iPhone 6...

Perhaps. I didn't have any experience with Android phones until the S5 and HTC One though, was TouchWiz actually tolerable back then?

I own an S2, I've never had any problem with it, works like the 1st day after almost 4 years of use.

I've never been a fan of Samsungs phones but even I like it when manufactures push each other to best each other with specs and industrial design but this time Sammy have dropped the ball and kicked their loyal customers in the gonads.

My eyes are now on the others coming from China. Oppo, One+ & Xiaomi for hot mobile developments in the next few years. Apple seem to be stagnating at the moment due to the efforts being afforded to the Apple Watch and unfortunately Sony don't seem to be able to grab a decent market share for thier phones no matter how good they make them.

@Sprite Do you mean Apple Stagnating as in their phones lack new innovations or what because they've been getting record profits if I'm correct?

Agreed they are selling a lot of phones like they sell large numbers of everything they make. However I've owned an iPhone since the 3G going through every major iteration but they do seem to not be at the forefront of pushing the limits.

It's maybe my own perceptions because they made a touchscreen a must input vector, then pushed Siri out and since then they've made no huge leaps in terms of the phones and all their bigger developments seem to have been with Apple Pay and the Apple Watch etc.

I know they won't push something out there until the hardware can support it or they feel the change is warranted, maybe I'm just spoilt with having the iPhone 6+ and I'm now hungry for the next big thing. I'm a little like a magpie in that way, always looking for the new shiny thing, maybe its also a touch of the grass is always greener.

@Sprite Ah got your point, I was actually surprised they made that much profit seeing as the Android devices have never been better.

@sems4arsenal agreed, there are some cracking phones now for android and windows. I think that's why the S6 was such a disappointment for me, I don't own an android phone but I like the hardware race they have. It's a bit like watching the console or graphics card wars. Seeing what others bring to the table is entertaining and exciting to watch.
