Saving A Race Part Way Thorugh?

I haven't completed 25% so I haven't got into the endurance races yet but the 1,000 hours is available. Is there a way of saving a race part way through and then coming back into it later to finish it? As far as I can see, if I exit the race this ends the race. Am I missing something?

[Edit: I've looked in the FAQs but couldn't find an answer to this.]

No, a race must be completed from the start to the finish line in one run. The only way to do it in several parts is to pause the game and hope that nobody touches anything, and that there are no electricity cuts.

The above is very true for endurance races. In a race series, you can leave the event after a race is compleated and save your progress. After compleating a race you continue to the next event. Once that loads up you can exit the race, read the next couple pop-ups chosing to return to the event. Then you can return to your garage to save your progress.
The only thing you will be able to do at this point is go to your garage and save, or go to get your oil changed. If you attempt to run another race or change cars it will inform you that you are already in an event, and you can abandon it, or continue the event.

. . . but the 1,000 hours is available.

WOW  thats a pretty long event. I thought that the 24 hour events were going to be tough.

I'm guessing that you ment the 1000 miles event in the Europian hall.

Thanks, guys. That confirms what I was thinking.

Oops  You guessed correctly.

Maybe "Save Race" could be added in GT5? (Don't know if it's in GT5 Prologue - awaiting delivery.)

For the 1000miles, you CAN SAVE IT inbetween races. You can also get an oil change between races too, so you don't lose power from Race 1 to 2, 2 to 3 or 3 to 4. ;)

Yes, the 1000 miles races are about 4 hours long for each race (unless you use something ridiculously quick like the Buick Special or Shelby Cobra, but then they're not really "races" per se) and the only way to have a break during each race is to use the pause function.

I suggest pressing "Start" to pause the game, then using the down arrow to scroll down and highlight "Screen Settings", this way if anyone was to accidentally press "X" or "O" on your controller, it'll go into the screen settings menu instead of unpausing the game.

Don't worry about the mythical overheating issues if you're leaving the PS2 on, I've been through 7 x 24 hour races and the PS2 has never hiccupped despite being left on for a total of 523 hours in one instance! :scared:
(I'm currently 1 hour into the Fuji 1000km race for the 3rd time and my PS2 has been paused overnight.)

Famine has also done well over 400 hours in one instance on a newer Slimline PSTwo which dispells the myth that the newer machines are prone to overheating. (Do make sure you've got adequate ventilation though!)

That said, the 1000 Miles! Event is great fun and I'd highly recommend that you take the time to drive it from start to finish in something relatively competetive. (May take a little digging for a good AI lineup though. ;))

As mafia_boy has mentioned, you can save the game in between races, just like you can with any championship event in GT4.

Thanks all for the tips :)

I did start the 1,000 Miles in an E-Type but it's too easy in that, unless there's an AC 427 in the lineup in which case he romps away.

Thought I'd try it in an Elan S1 so I'm about to do the Lotus Classics to aquire one.

Still too easy :). Why not try a more challenging car. Checkout the "200 point races subforum" found above the gt4 subforum.

Good luck!

AMG.

GrahamP, Welcome to the planet. Not everything is in the faq's, however saying that I used the search option and found this page quite easily.

Definately if you want a challenge for 1000 Miles, try what AMG suggests. An example of this is the Nissan Skyline BLR-A, great racing with this car, against many line-ups.

I don't think I'll be able to do the 1000 miles championship anytime soon. You would think it would be in the endurance hall since it's a collection of endurance races.

Yeah but saying this, then the FGT series should also be classed as this as-well.

You can always pause during the race, so you could do one race over three or so days at a hour os so a night. 👍

Thanks for the link, Open Addict. I see it's dated February 2007. When I search for "Save" I get 100 hits (which seems to be a maximum limit?), none of which are far enough back for that thread. I limited the search to just the GT4 Forum but still get 100 hits which only go as far back as August 2008. How can I search further back?

I don't know if my skill level is good enough for 200 pointers but I'll give it a try to find out:)

I have the idea that it's modelled on the Mille Miglia (1000 miles in Italian) race that was run from the late 1920s to some time in the '50s(?), hence its relevance to the European events. Of course the GT4 races differ wildly in allowing cars up to 1970, and allowing Japanese cars.

Now, to get really off-topic: can anyone tell me if there was any political motive or influence behind racing on the European continent in this period? A huge wave of nationalism swept through Europe in the wake of WWI and the resulting depression of '29-30. Benito Mussolini was a fascist whose authoritarian tendencies extended to (famously) obsessing over train timetables, so I can't imagine he gave up the opportunity to use such an event for nationalist propaganda or to attempt to change the zeitgeist to his own ends. Please PM me if you have references/knowledge/anecdotes/rumours about this race so we can get this thread (albeit a rather redundant one) back on topic.

Sorry for Off-Topic comments,
cheers,

PF

PRE-EDIT EDIT: I jsut found a couple of gtplanet posts where they refer to the 1000mi races as Mille Miglia, but no historical background with it. Google turns up SFA, so help would be appreciated

100 seems to be max for me aswell. However i searched 'display threads not posts also you could try advanced options as-well

Yep, I already did that. The results were as per my previous post. No worries. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Redundant thread or not, it's been helpful to me anyway:)

I have no idea, but it wouldn't surprise me.

If I recall correctly, there was indeed political motivation behind European racing between the World Wars. I remember reading somewhere that Germany and Hitler used Grand Prix racing to push their dominance on the rest of the world.

ON-TOPIC: I would have really liked it if it was possible to save during a race. Other games did it, after all.
