If anyone is experiencing (or has) this problem, and can help, I'd be greatly appreciative.

Only recently, (maybe 2 weeks or so) whenever I run a free lap to fine tune my settings, then exit back to the main menu, my changed settings aren't saved. Even worse, usually A,B,and C setups are all reverted to the original settings (HP set to + - 0, Weight also + - 0, etc.).

At first, I thought i was only having a problem with the Tuned Vette (for the current GTP head to head race), but it is now happening to any car I drive.

Just as odd is the fact that if I exit the game (always from the main menu screen), the car I was in last is not the car that shows up when I start the game the next time.

Statistically speaking, NTSC, SpecIII, DFGT, Auto save is on.

I haven't changed any "options" for a while, so I'm not sure how this even started.

Any help is appreciated.

By the way, I forgot who made the .pdf stat sheet before one of the updates, but if you read this THANK YOU, my stack of pages are piling up.

Okay, so I don't have this game, but the same thing has happened to me on GT4. I tend to hit the triangle button. That usually does the trick.

Yes, it doesn't save automatically when you come back to main menu, when you haven't got more money, or buy a car or change the options etc... You just have to save manually from the main menu.

Wow, you guys respond fast!
JVM - do you mean using the "save" icon on the main menu screen?
I don't think I've ever used that.
Gonna give it a try right now.

Problem Solved!

Thanks JvM, it worked.
I just can't believe I've never had (or pehaps noticed) this problem before.
All that's left is to tranfer 13 pages worth of settings from paper to PS3.
Not exactly an auto-save after all.
Oh well, be back online in about an hour.

Thanks again

If it makes you feel any better, you aren't the first to run into this problem.

The game will autosave on return to main menu if one of the following occurs:
- complete a money earning race (online or offline, even if capped at 2M credits)
- run a time trial which results in a change to your local leaderboard
- purchase or sell a car
- adjust game settings

The following will not trigger an autosave:
- adjusting quicktune settings
- running free run laps
- running a quick race against AI
- reading news, viewing video

This list may not be complete, but you get the idea.

Thanks for the concern over my sanity. (and I do mean that).
I'm guessing I always used to race right after tuning, so it worked fine. Either that, or I just never noticed before, as often the tuning adjustment will follow a race (and may have been so minor, that I didn't notice the next time), then a trial lap (or 2, or 20), and then back to the main menu to exit.
Seeing as the Tuned Vette race is ten laps, I probably just didn't race after tuning.
I had also not used this car before (have it in 3 colours), and the other two cars settings were set for a different track. So the settings (for the new Vette) returned to stock settings, yet the others loaded normally.
Now it makes total sense that the game kept starting with the Ford st, as that's this weeks WRS event car, and the last car that I completed a race in.

Thanks guys:tup:

Also note that this means you must return to the main menu after completing a set of races (and staying in the online part without returning to the menu). It only saves when you return to the menu. If, for instance, you use the XMB to quit the game without returning to the main menu, you will not just lose the money of the last race, but of all races you did since the last save (and all the settings you changed).

That's partly why I was confused. I always "quit game" from the GT5P main menu, for the reasons you listed above.
I didn't realize that if you don't manually save the game after doing Only free laps, and tunings, you lose the changes, as if they were never made.

Another way to lose setups...

If you run some free runs, go make changes to your setup, then go straight to a replay, the game will reset your car back to the setup used to create that replay.:ouch:

Not that I ever did it (I always save after at the main menu after creating a tune), but this is a rather sneaky one IMO.

Hi,

What is this "stat pages" (PDF format) you are referring to? Can you please send a link? Thanks...
