In 1968, Henri Greder and Bob Lutz have convinced George Filipinetti for two Chevrolet Corvette L88 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The latter appealed to Franco Sbarro to assist in this endeavor. Although no longer officially employed at Filipinelli, Franco Sbarro still did some work for him. Thus, it went to the United States to assemble the two Corvette under the direction of Zora Arkus Duntov in person. Sbarro had requested at the time that 150 francs a day, to the amazement of the U.S., are accustomed to far more important.
During 24 hours of Le Mans in September 1968, the two cars dominated the GT class in the early hours of the race. One of the Corvette abandoned on mechanical problems (fuel) at the sixth hour of racing, the other as a result of an exit route at the fourteenth time. Previously, the two cars suffered brake problems due to their weight being too high.
Even if they have not experienced any major victories, the two cars involved in all the major races of the day, including the Tour de France Automobile. One of them (chassis No. 194378S410300) was hired six times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a record unmatched at the moment for the same chassis.
