At least 7 of those would be in my top 8 but I’ve never played Baja so can’t include it. Otherwise my thoughts are very similar.

If we had to rank codrivers on accuracy and appeal:

  1. DiRT Rally
  2. DiRT 4
  3. V-Rally 4
  4. Dakar 18
  5. WRC7
  6. SLRE
  7. Gravel; but there isn’t a codriver IIRC

Great vid Scaff. I’m always surprised by how few views and subs you have.

The car list of slre is great, love the 2000’s offerings mainly. Just a shame they sound like vacuum cleaners lol

Interested to see your vid on dirt rally 2 and whether it takes the crown.

Great vid. I'm not sure I could stretch to 8 as I'm not a dakar fan and have never played Baja and haven't really got into V Rally 4 yet.

My list then would probably reverse SLRE and Dirt Rally. I've simply put more time into Dirt Rally. Which is no way a reflection on SLRE, like you say in your video, the stages and for the most part the physics are excellent. I personally feel Dirt has slightly more immersion which has kept me coming back to it more often.

My all time list would be:

1. Dirt Rally
2. Colin McRae Rally 2005
3. WRC4 (2004)
4. Richard Burns Rally
5. Sebastien Loeb Rally Evo
6. WRC3 (2003)
7. Dirt 4
8. WRC7 (2017)
9. Colin McRae Rally
10. Mobil 1 Rally Championship

Honourable mentions:
Rally Masters: Race of Champions
V-Rally 3
Sega Rally (2007)
Rally Trophy

I haven't played Baya nor V-Rally 4 (downloading) but from what I've played:

  1. Dakar '18
  2. SLRE
  3. WRC7
  4. Dirt
  5. Dirt 4
  6. Gravel
I put Dakar in the number one spot since it is so unique, has huge variation, very long stages and it's a true labour of love by a small dev.

D4 could climb if the YS had more tiles. I have no idea how VR4 will fit in yet....

I’ve been messing around with various rally titles over the past couple of weekends in anticipation of Dirt Rally 2.0 and my list and reasoning is as follows

1. Dirt Rally

Positives:
  • VR - Obvously
  • Good handling model with informative FFB
  • Stage design is excellent.
  • 60 FPS with good graphics
Negatives:
  • Seriously light on content

2. WRC 7
- I’ve been having fun with this one

Postives:
  • Superb stage design
  • Good feeling of being in a team involved in a championship
  • Convincing handling model - with a caveat that’s discussed in the negatives section
  • Good content
Negatives
  • FFB doesn’t reflect the handling model on the default FFB setting - certainly not on the G29. It needs to dialled in otherwise you don’t feel much, if anything leading to swinging the car along the straights because you can't feel the centre.
  • 30 FPS, although the motion blur mitigates this relatively successfully.

3. SLRE
- or Slob Rally as I like to childishly call it - Be warned my impressions of this are based on a couple of hours playtime only.

Positives:
  • Fantastic handling model
  • FFB that works well right out of the box - no tweaking needed
  • Stage design from what I've seen is really well done
Negatives:
  • Graphically not the most accomplished title, but IMO better than @Scaff makes out. You'd think you'd be buying a PS1 title based on his description ;)
  • Same for sound, but it is useable
  • 30 FPS, and it's obvious unlike WRC 7 which seems to hide it better due to motion blurs

4. Dirt 4

Positives:
  • Content
  • My Stage - interesting and can extend the life of Dirt 4
Negatives:
  • Handling model - If the Codies had called it Boat 4 and set it in various water locations then it might be pretty good.
  • Yelling at co-driver - "Are you taking me round in circles - we did that corner a mile ago" - yep My Stage doesn't really work that well, and repeating parts crop up all to often.

I've also spent an hour or so with V-Rally 4, which despite a pretty good handling model, the whole thing seems to be artificially fast, which makes it somewhat arcadey, but that's only when I could get to drive, unfortunately the user interface proved to be so impenetrable that I gave up in the end.

I wasn't even aware there was 8 rally titles for ps4! I have only played 1 and 1 demo so I figured for fun I would list my top 8 of all time :)

1- Dirt Rally 1 - best rally game ever in my opinion
2- Colin Mcrae Rally 4 - the jump in graphics from the PS1 games was amazing, I was hooked for months and months
3- Colin Mcrae Rally 3 - same as above but will less content and the career mode only in a focus was kinda annoying
4- V Rally 3 - The V-Rally mode/career mode set this on apart from others
5- Sega Rally- Way back when i spent a fortune on arcades playing this and continued to do so on console too
6- Colin Mcrae Rally 1 - The one that started it all
7- WRC 4 - The first of the WRC titles on the PS3 I played and enjoyed
8- Colin Mcrae Rally 2.0 - Never owned it myself but playing this at my friends house made me jealous I never owned it myself at the time

As you can see I've always been a big fan of Codies and their rally games, the DIRT series left a bad taste, that was until Dirt Rally came along..

Great video @Scaff, here's my thoughts :)

1 = SLRE+WRC7+DR !

I can't separate them, I like them all the same but for different reasons.

SLRE for the fantastic handling, total amount of stages per round and total amount of cars on offer.

WRC7 for the handling, total amount of rounds/stages, the new era WRC cars & the feeling of being part of a team tackling the official WRC championship.

DR for the handling, graphics and engine sounds, Pikes Peak. I love the fact that it's difficult to play & so demanding.

2 = VR4.

I know this game isn't for everyone due to the random difficulty spikes & wheel issues but to me its great fun, I like all the different disciplines. I like how the random stage generator works. I don't like the menu system much!

Like many people I found Dirt 4 a let down, mainly due to the handling. It didn't feel like a true follow up to Dirt 2/3 at all. Hopefully if there's going to be a Dirt 5 it can break away from DR 1/2 & go back to the fun of the aforementioned titles.

I enjoyed playing Gravel whilst it lasted, buggy menus & replays, (sometimes), but certainly a bit of a hidden gem.

I have the Baja but it's still sealed waiting to be played..
I don't have Dakar 18 yet..
I'm looking forward to DR2 once it's dropped to a price that I'm happy with, lack of content etc.
I'm really looking forward to WRC8 !

At least 7 of those would be in my top 8 but I’ve never played Baja so can’t include it. Otherwise my thoughts are very similar.

SLR's co-driver should be lower than a game without one, it's so bad/inconsistent it kind of killed the game for me. It's a shame really because the car list was one of the best I've seen in a rally game.
