scanner problems...

Ok, i've had my scanner since last May and it's always worked great. Well the other day it suddenly started not working and giving me this message:

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, I've switched between USB ports (I tried both, same thing) and it still says that!

It's a Visioneer One Touch 5800 USB scanner that was brand new in May of 02. And I looked everywhere, there is no "lock" on it anywhere and when I first got it I just had to plug in the USB port, the power cord, and install it. Everything is plugged in good and my other USB thing (a controller) is workin fine so it isn't the USB port.

Hi everyone: I'm new here and what brought me here is that joke of a Visioneer Onetouch 5820 USB scanner thing. I just wished I read all the reviews from oh, so many unhappy users of these things.

So I put this thing back in it's box nice and neat and am taking it back. I usually trade for another device, but in this case I won't since apparently this company put out close to 100% of these lemons. Here is the website where the reviews are:

However I bought a Onetouch 5600 USB and I love it. It hasn't caused me a moments trouble. I told my neighbor across the street and she bought it. I hooked it up for her and she hasn't had any problems with hers either.
