Donlimpio13. đź‘Ť Nice, friendly, clean, and fair racer.

My bad luck, I never met him! I guess he's something like the Iberian wildcat - the most endangered feline in the world (2 cubs born this month in Algarve in captivity :sly:)

But I'm sad to say I could name at least 1/2 a dozen others off the top of my head who dirty punters. Certainly double or even triple that if I check my 'blocked users' list on the PSN. I don't like to enforce undeserved stereotypes but there is some irony that 2/3 of the racers on my 'blocked' list are Spaniards.

... even more endangered than the wildcat!

:odd: Perhaps Alonsomania has created a generation of Iberian sim racers who in their zealousness to finish first, either tossed away the book on racing etiquette or simply jumped from step 1 to 5. ;)

Spanish, mind you! :grumpy: Our heroe is, was and always be Lamy FTW :sly:!

That guy last night was literally knocking people off the road when they got a run on him, and using people as bumper stops in order to make corners. Once or twice he slid off the road and simply re-entered the track like a...well like a bull , oblivious to who was coming. If it happens once or twice fine. But he just kept at it, over and over again. During the first race at Miami, Manny was disappearing into the distance and Arvore and I kept getting knocked off the track. To be fair, there are a lot of people on-line who race with this attitude. To which I say, they're welcome to it. And if they're running the lobby, I'll leave. If they're in my lobby, I'll politely suggest they change their approach. If they don't, they're welcome to leave. And I'll insist on it.

I have to say that EVERY SINGLE RACE we've done at Homestead, even before you joined us, on the turn 1 I just keep seeing a "white stain" flashing in front of me... was that spanish punter white Ferrari 348...

I wish I could've taken a video of what I could see coming out of Stowe. It was like a Destroyer smoke screen.

 I bet. It didn't help that when I finally gained control I was sitting sideways on the track. And the thoughts that float through your brain in that 0.5 seconds--which side of the track am I closer to? Which side is he coming? And then...WHAM! :ouch:

By the time we got into the last lap at VIR with me in the lead and watching the split time to you get smaller and smaller... I think my face must've looked a lot like this... :scared: It was a fun night all around however and I just hope I drive as well on Sunday... because as you may have noticed I occasionally fold under pressure.:lol:

I think I mentioned it last night, during that race I wasn't watching the lap timer, I was just concentrating on trying to bring down the gap. I had it down to 2.5 seconds and then got a penalty and it went back up to 5.5. When I crossed the finish line it was down to just under 1.0 second. When the checkered flag came out I was like a deer in headlights. I was just staring at the screen for 2-3 seconds with my mouth open. I was totally bummed!

Lamy? Wasn't he the guy who started the 94 Pacific Grand Prix in reverse gear? ;) It might have been dangerous but there are certain benefits to being last on the grid.

That was him. :grumpy:

Hey ... we never opressed Spain, we're the Irish around here ... :D

Oh goodness, I know, but if we Irishmen were to punt Englishmen then we would be doing it as freedom fighters! Because we know what the British fear most - punters in budget racing simulation games of course.

FREEEEDOOMM!!

Yes I had a couple of WTF moments with him too. Based on what I heard over the microphone he raced the first several races with us, then I think he may have let one of his 8 year old kids drive for the Mount Tremblant race, because his performance improved a bit... :dopey:

:grumpy: Never happen! Prove it! (and I mean no fake video but legally recognized written document by his own hand stating it with a picture of him hold it in his hand while jumping from an airplane without parachute and holding on the other hand a sign saying "Hi to GTPlanet")... and you have 2 seconds to do it... oh... it's over!

Seriously I don't recall it. Either way he was very young at the time and never did get a car truly competitive (at then probably he didn't deserve on better either)... Nonetheless he become a really reliable GT driver since then, and being factory-team driver for Jaguar, Aston Martin, Peugeot or BMW does support it I believe...

He's even helping in the development and testing Loeb's next year rally car, the Citroen DS3 WRC. He is highly praised within the PSA group

I'm not trying to make any nationality discrimination but why is it that all spanish racers I found online are nothing but punters?! IN EVERY GAME?!

I'm sure it's just a coincidence and bad luck from me, since I'm also sure there are there plenty of fair good fast spanish drivers... but I never come across one yet.. :ouch:

Bullie, Donlimpo13 his the best and clean racer i know,

I am in for the race also guys..

It would probably been better I had went for the private lobby, like initialy planned but when I got online wnabm3 was already trainning the combo in a public lobby with davidg and other couple of nice clean racers I had never met before-one sweden other irish-and we weren't much at the beginning so I went public, after ,despite the only thing I like in spain is their women:) ,and even those talk too much and too loud:dopey: ,I'm not very keen in booting people just because of their nacionality,so I gave him the bennifit of the doubt...:guilty: silly me should have know better:indiff:

Everybody please remember to read the first post in this thread for a quick refresher on the rules for this event. :) Those who haven't posted a time at Homestead might want to consider a few practice rounds. :)

I see you've taken your own advice. Good time Jeff. đź‘Ť

You guys are getting me worried with all those hours of practise and tuning secrets. Tonight I'll try this for the first time but I already suspect doom is coming my way this sunday :ill:

I see you've taken your own advice. Good time Jeff. đź‘Ť

It WAS a good time until you decided to up the ante. But I'm close. I think your best time is a 1:23.93, hm66 at 1:23.95(?) and I'm trailing with a 1:24.05 (beating my best time last night of a 1:24.80). The fastest lap is still New_Soul with a jaw dropping 1:22.9X. :scared:

But to be honest, despite improving my time, I'm not very happy. My current setup for this track is certainly quick, as witnessed by my time, almost a second faster than my previous best. But after nearly an hour of practice and fiddling this afternoon, I'm still very uncomfortable with it. In fact, I would even call it treacherous. So I'll probably adjust it again and settle for something in the middle, slower but more stable and hope that consistency pays off.

[tongue-in-cheek mode] Biggles, I see from your rather relaxed leaderboard time that you're still running with a completely stock setup. You'll have to do some tuning in order to be competitive. But if you find you're about to be lapped, you're free to park it on the side, keep your mic running and entertain us "young guys" with some Mandolin playing. [/tongue-in-cheeck mode] :sly:

Actually I was in the process of doing the same thing... de-tuning the somewhat scarey setup of last night's races. I found to my surprise that the more stable setup could be faster once I adjusted to it.

The problem with Homestead is I tended to tune for that first turn and let everything else fend for itself. Not the best idea... I think there is a bit more time to be found there, but I've moved on to work the Redwood Park setup, where I'm not even close to you.

Just to reiterate the rules and settings, here they are again, as posted on the first page:

I will open a lobby under my PSN ID: jjaisli approximately 5~10 minutes before the event starts and will first send race invites to those on my buddy list who are on-line and have expressed an interest in joining this series. If anybody new would like to join, provided there's space in the lobby, you're more than welecome. Just send me a PSN message and I'll send you an invite in return. Event No 1 : April 11th, 2010 - 20:00 GMT - Homestead Miami Infield

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additional Details:

- I encourage everybody who wants to take part to carefully read THIS THREAD and take appropriate steps before the event. I'm really bothered by the fact that there are connectivity issues with this game. And while I feel very badly for those so afflicted, it's also an imposition to the others in the lobby. If for some reason you are consistently kicked out of the lobby, I will try to send a few duplicate invites. But if after a few brief tries you are unable to stay connected to the lobby, I will offer my apologies and start the event.

- I was quite surprised and pleased by the amount of restraint I saw in most of the Old Timer events I've hosted in the past. Pile ups at tricky first corners are sometimes inevitable. But these are ALL endurance races. Even at a short track like Miami, even the sprint race should go for 15 minutes. So let's take it easy and try for minimal contact. I'm not against hard racing but using somebody as a brake or bumper stop is not allowed. Let's have clean racing!

- I encourage the use of headsets, although to be realistic, we know headsets don't work very well when more than 4-5 people are using them at the same time. And if we really have a large lobby, I would like to ask everybody to turn off their headsets completely once the race gets started as it will save bandwidth. Once back in the lobby, feel free to use the mics again.

- I will invite everybody in the lobby to a text chat and will make important announcements in written form so everybody receives clear instructions. Everybody please remember to JOIN the text chat.

- Between the two races there will be a 5 minute break, longer if needed or requested. But I ask everybody to please stay in the lobby.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm really excited about starting this series. I want to thank those of you who joined in the practice sessions earlier this week. I'm still not 100% satisfied with my setup for this event but I feel much better about it than I did yesterday.

I've got my new livery ready to go:

I just added some color, shading and graphics. Now creating the Road Runner, for that you have to be an artist. Well done New_Soul.

Let's see the top!

EDIT: Here, I lightened it a bit and changed the size. Hope you don't mind.

Alright Folks, this event is just a few hours away. I wanted to remind everybody that the race will begin at 20:00 (8:00 pm) GMT. Remember, GMT does not take summer time / daylight savings into account. The current time GMT is below so please plan accordingly:

http://www.worldtimeserver.com/current_time_in_UTC.aspx
I tried to put an embedded clock in here but I don't think it will work.

See you soon. :)

Well, bad news. My video camera has finally and fully, kicked the bucket. Considering the problems I've had, especially during the last few races, with a lot of 'black' footage and artifacts, I knew it was going to happen sooner or later. I tried to take some video of my daughter earlier today and it's had it. So in short, I won't be recording the race today. I'm hoping some of you, Hun200kmh, hm66 and others will take some video in my place.

The good news is I finally relented and ordered a new camera so I should have it for the next race in two weeks.

See you guys in a few hours...

The race: I started from pole, had a good enough start to keep me in the 1st position, turn 1 was very good i got a good exit and accelerated to turn2, then it happened.. the right rear wheel got on the grass and that was game over in the braking area to that left hander, my car went straight in to the wall and i saw the whole field go past me, came back on track behind Jeff, and after som corners i was behind Drivatar, he had a very wide car, and it tock me som laps to get past him, there was a colision in the last corner of the infield, and i gained 3 positions, then as i was working my self up the field i saw Henrik slowing down on the oval part of the track..
I was coming closer to Arvore and in turn 1 he got a wheel on the grass and mised the corner.. ..soon i was behind Many and Henrik was behind me, he had a good speed at that time and i was not abel to close the gap, i was pushing to hard and and lost som time, to Henrik, then he cached me and we overtock each other for a cople of laps, then i missed turn 1 and landed a good 7sec behind.
Was caching Many quickley, and got past, there was not much laps left to cach Henrik, i was behind for a cople of laps and made som mistakes then on lap 18 i think i was in the slip stream on the oval part of the track. i culd not go to the inside and i had to take the outside. that move cost me momentum, but i got past Henrik on the outside, and in turn 1 i was on the gras and Henrik was bach in front again. On the final lap i was right behind, but was on the grass in turn 1 again and in the final infield corner the gap was 0.9 with no chanco of slip stream. Henrik did win a grate race:tup:
Sprint race: started from the last row, again behind, Drivatar, the first laps had som colisions and one where i had to brake on the straiht to not hit a car that was spining out, Jef was right behind me and i can imagine he was quait surprised to se me brake where i shold be accelerating.
soon i overtock Frawe who did leed the race, and then i was in front, Jef was seting the pace 0.7 faster for a cople of laps, i was having dificulties to see the braking point to the last infield corner, the rain made the screan so dark that i cold not se the thin line on the tarmack about 130m. Then Henrik came trough behinde me and started to cach up with som fast lap times, the gap was schrinking, but it stayed 1-3 sec until the end.
