This thread is one I've started to talk about this year's Valvoline Runoffs. This is a series of racing events in which regional champions from around America compete in a variety of circuit racing events to become National Champions. The SCCA Runoffs is sometimes seen as the Olympics of motorsport. Cars in classes ranging from tuned production vehicles to purpose-built race cars. My personal favorite classes are the Sports Racer classes and those big brutes in American GT-1. After a lot of great racing at Mid-Ohio for many years, the Runoffs now take place at Heartland Park Topeka (much to the dislike of GTPlanet's Leyla's Keeper). No matter where the Runoffs go, it's all about one thing- the Gold Medal. It's a chance to show America you are atop the food chain in SCCA racing. Who will claim gold in the 24-something classes of SCCA competition? We will see come October.

For now though, you're willing to kick this discussion off for this year's races. Unless... you want to wait until later in the year to see what actually happened. By the way, this is my first attempt at making a Runoffs discussion. I learned the full name of this deal is known as the SCCA National Championship Runoffs Presented by AT&T.

Regional SCCA racing provides terrific racing to watch and compete in. The fact that the best of the boys from each region gather together every year to battle it out is like we get three Christmas's a year... Le Mans, Christmas, SCCA Runoffs. Seriously though, when Speed get around to throwing this stuff on the air at ridiculous mid-day hours on Tuesday's I find myself coming down with a cold purely so I can stay home and check out the great grass roots racing going down in the Runoffs. I too have my favorite classes, Formula Atlantic and Continental stand out to me amongst the plethora of open-wheel racing we are graced with each year, GT1 as you said John is awesome fun and everything from showroom stock to the touring classes seem to provide the same high quality racing with big fields. I do have a soft spot for the sports racers... heck... I guess I just LOVE every class running in the runoff's!!!

I love the Runoffs, and I was fortunate enough to pick up an SCCA magazine covering the final Mid-Ohio Runoffs (presented by Kohler). Personally I like the slower classes like F, G, and H Production, because they're usually one of the more exciting classes to watch. But I also like Touring 1 and 2 because these classes are always exciting. I think the 2007 Runoffs will make for some great racing, since they've moved to a new location and will be getting used to the course. I'd forgotten about the Runoffs for a while until I read this thread. Thanks for updating me.👍
