SCCA Solo II

I just went to my first SCCA Solo II event yesterday, and I think I'm hooked. My girlfriends dad let me drive his Miata Sport. It was awesome!!! Interesting enough, the thing was an automatic. Go figure...

For those of you not in the know, Solo II is individual time trial racing on short technical road layouts with lots of different car classes. I don't think I've ever seen so many neat cars in one place at once.

If you really like GT3-A, you should check this out. You can race in just about anything besides Minivans and SUV's.

When I was there, the entrance fee was $18 for non-members, and $15 for members. Plus there was a student discount either way.

The track wasn't anything like in GT3-A. This was just a flat piece of concrete with lots of cones and some line chalk(like they use in baseball). The courses themselves aren't very big. The one I went to was about 63sec on average, it is technically demanding. It had several hairpin turns and 3 slaloms. That event had 130 drivers, (the second largest in that groups history) so each rider was awarded four runs in one heat. Usually, if there are less drivers, there are more runs or fun runs at the end of the day.

Also, every driver is expected to work at least one heat to pick up over turned cones and radio in penalites, etc. I think it was a blast, seeing as how it was real life and all.

I've never understood how guys can see the course with cones everywhere ... I'd keep getting lost (:

Sounds like a blast! I'll be sure and join you next time, hopefully.
