Hi this is more of a question than a problem. Right so I got a new computer with an R9 270X but I only have an old vga cable. When I use a dvi adaptor the screen goes really funny right from the asus boot screen. Windows will also only start in safe mode unless I uninstall the display driver. when I do manage to get a video output its got loads of jagged horizontal lines.

So my question is does the above sound like a cable issue or GPU issue?

I would be amazed if that wasn't a cable issue. Shouldn't be too costly to get a proper DVI cable, or even a cheap HDMI if you're only running a 60hz monitor.

get a DVI D or hdmi cable.

Ok thanks guys im at work tomorrow but I got someone to go get me the cable I need. Already had issues with this computer when I first got it the thing was dead. Sent it back and when I got it back today the cause of the first issue was a bad motherboard.

That's never fun when you're excited to use a new computer.

I know after the initial set back I just wanted to be alone for a very long time wasn't really anger like rage just dissapointed.

I have a new question! So i got another cable that didn't work but I decided to take a print screen and this is what came back.
This to me says the hardware is fine and its just my monitor needs replacing ASAP. Correct?

but the monitor looks like this.

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure print screen doesn't necessarily reflect what your GPU is outputting. Have you tried removing and re-seating the card? Are you still using a VGA adaptor? What make/model is your monitor, computer (you implied it's pre-built, is that right?) and power supply?

The fact that you can only boot in safe mode until you remove the display drivers suggests there's a problem there, is that still ongoing?

yeah still have driver issue. The best cable I could get(sort notice) had a VGA at one end and a DVI at the other the monitor is an obscure brand called HANNS.G and it a 19" (1440x900 HW191D model number). Pretty confidant in the power supply is a corsair 600W 80 plus bronze. Don't really want to go in the computer as if I need to send back and I somehow did something wrong there goes my £600.

Are there two DVI ports on the back of the video card?

From the cards I've looked at it looks like they typically have one DVI-I port and one DVI-D port. Since you are trying to use a VGA (analog) cable make sure you're trying with the DVI-I port.

Really think the easiest thing to do is to order a proper DVI cable.

Yes I agree im gunna get a new full hd monitor and cable. I was using the right port aswell I did notice 1 port had vga dvi next to it and the other just dvi

Well I have been in contact with the person who sold me it and they said to send the GPU back. luckily when i got the PC the GPU protective foam box was used as packing so I have put it in that and am gonna send in off soon.

The new monitor didn't help

Hi all don't know if anyone is bothered about this but after sending it back it has been confirmed as a faulty card and I'm getting a replacement tomorrow I think.

Wow, that's incredibly bad luck to have a faulty motherboard and a faulty GPU in a brand new PC. Sounds like the people who built it have poor static management practices!

I know its terrible. The reason I bought the computer was because on eBay the company I chose had a 99.8% positive feedback profile out of about 5000 transactions! I'm not sure if it was the company who did the damage or the delivery people (Parcel Force). A documentary a few years back showed people at a different delivery company just throwing boxes around like they didn't give a damn what was inside.

The new GPU is working for now yay. I also think I got a nice upgrade to. The last card was a VTX R9 270X and the new card a a sapphire x vapour R9 270X
