The best reply ever in 007 history.. still funny and smooth as silk ;)

"What are you doing here.. are you looking for shells?" .... "No.. I'm just looking"

RIP Sir Sean Connery (Legend)

...It's a shame that his last on-screen appearance was the subpar League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. And I'm being charitable there about that film's quality.

I learned today that there was an allegation of domestic abuse against him. Never knew that. From the interviews he did and things I read about him, I didn't get such a vibe but who knows...

Anyways, RIP Sean Connery. You'll always be the best speedo-wearing mustached savage in an apocalyptic world.

Gee, thanks. I'd pushed that out of my mind and there you go bringing it up again.

That's what made him great. Like the characters he portrayed he himself wasn't afraid of a risk or two, and his presence could take a crap film to another level. Take Zardoz for instance, biggest load of bull ever, but still one of my favourites as he made it watchable.

Nah, and yeah. It was an interview that got blown out of proportion where he said that he would slap a woman if needed. It doesn't fly today, but he's from the same generation as my father, who, if I got out of line would give me a damned good hiding. Domestic abuse these days, but back then it was tough love. Don't judge the past on the values of today, and it's clear that he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Excellent actor, bit too much of a fan of domestic abuse for me to qualify as a descent human being

Anyway, an iconic hero on the silver screen for me in my youth. I used to love coming home from school
and watching one of the Bond movies. The 1989 film Family Business is one of my favorite movies of all time,
and another brilliant performance was of course Connery as Jim Malone in The Untouchables.

I quite like the fact that he left Hollywood and fame behind to go live on an island in the Bahamas for the final seventeen years or so of his life. Continually turning down offers from agents and studios and just settled for life away from the spotlight. He must have enjoyed that final part of his life.

I have to say, much as I'm a Bond fan, I rarely consider these films when I think of Connery as an actor. The Hunt for Red October, The Rock and Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade are probably my favourite (Connery) films. As a real outside shout, Helldrivers has always been a film that I thought could be retold in modern context, as such it's always stuck in my head as a Connery film, and of course, one of my favourite war films, The Longest Day.

...Actually, I was wrong. "LXG" wasn't Connery's last on-screen outing, technically speaking.

I know I'll be hated for all eternity by doing this, but google "Sir Billi".

You can hate me later.

Yes, that was the impression I got. Although I haven't read that interview you mentioned, I thought he was an old-school gent who'd not hesitate to beat up anyone getting on his nerves as long as they weren't women and children. But he divorced his first wife after the allegation surfaced so it might be something there. Then again, he stayed with his second wife until his passing, so it could also be nothing, too.

It was quite a bit more than that, with very credible claims that his first wife suffered serious and repeated abuse at his hands, and yes I will quite happily judge the actions of the past on the values of today, as they should have been the values of the past as well. Abuse in any form, regardless of the time it occurred, is not acceptable at all, and I'm not going to give him a pass just because he's passed away.

Nor was it a single interview, rather something he repeatedly stood by over numerous interviews across decades.
