Searching for a Freeware 3D CAD Program

Fellow GTPers,

I am looking for a useful freeware 3D CAD program for use in casual design. I have tried Anim8or and found it rubbish, and am hoping that there is better software available. Do any members know of such software, if so, where can I obtain it?

Google Sketch-up.

It's really quite good for what it is, but like all CAD packages it requires a fair bit of ability to get the maximum out of it.

Google Sketchup is indeed a nifty little program. Be sure to read the tutorials before you start though, Sketchup at first without any basic training is a PITA.

This afternoon I downloaded Blender, as it runs with Python 2.6.2, which I already have. Does anyone have experience with Blender? If so, what advice would you provide?

sketchup's a little frustrating as it snaps to axis you dont want it to lay on
