Searching Seconds - Brake Mod wisdom anyone?

You might know the feeling...you do everything right, it looks like the fast guys on Youtube but...
so on my search for seconds now I am considering a brake mod. What brought me there is a hotlap video from Suzuka, where on the first corner the guy stays on the brakes all the way. When I drive there I step on the brake all the way, make the first right and then I even accelerate again for the second right which is smooth. Just braking a bit all the way and then progressively more def. does not seem sustainable with the standard G29 brake in my eyes as it is too loose to be well dosed. so I checked the market real quick, I don't like that italian rubber insert into the spring - a progressive exchange spring seems the best solution. I found one (GTeye) in Australia for roughly $50 and Nixim from England. Any advise, more tips? also...does anyone know the spring load? should be possible to find those springs for $2, if you know where to look, they are industrial springs, used on doors, elevators etc. I assume?? also, does anybody agree or argue that it won't do a thing? I can imagine a heavy progressive break to give a lot more fine dosing to it, in fact I think I would order a whole set and see if the gas would be nicer with a stiffer spring too.

It should allow you to improve your trail braking and generally help with modulation.

There were many DIY for cheap things people did with the G25/G27 brakes.. I think a lot of people use rubber hose inside the spring. They would make cuts in it to add progression. Some googling might give you more ideas.

I use the GTeye brake spring in my g27 pedals amd having some progression definetly helps. I'd recomend it to any Logitech user who is looking for some extra feel without going all out on a load cell.

I only got their brake spring, i think it was around 20 or 30 euro. I then put my old brake spring wich is a little stiffer in my gas pedal and the old gas spring in the clutch. So all pedals get a little upgrade for only 20-30 euro.

If you're considering taking the rubber out completely, be aware that the G29 doesn't calibrate the brake pedal which leaves you with a deadzone at the end. Read up on it from here up to a solution here.

I haven't tried the Nixim springs so I can't give a proper comparison. I chose the GTEye ones from looking at the various graphs that are (or were) around. You'd probably spend a long time looking for a 'standard' spring that came anywhere close to either, and it almost certainly wouldn't be progressive. Personally, I think the full set is worth it - the gas feels 'just right' to me :)

Exactly. Sure it can be done cheaper but they really put some thought in that little spring. Its is not just that it is more stiff but there is some progression to it making you able to have more of a feel on the brake instead of having to remember the amount of travel range. It is a great product imo. If u want to save some money u can just get the brake spring and swap the old ones around.

Nixim mod i havent tried but should be very simular from what ive heard about it.

@Shottah072 @Outspacer thanks a lot guys!! -now, did it make you faster? has anyone tried the full GTeye set?

(@Outspacer ...your solution might be a piece of cake for you...but def. rings the alarm over here. I was hoping to get away with mechanical alterations, that looks rather complicated...don't know where to get that part, what it does and what it's for... :/

It does help with trailbraking and threshold braking so there is probably a little gain from it. But in GTS most run ABS so locking up is not really a big issue. In other sims where locking up a wheel is easier the gain might be a bit bigger. I'd say over the course of 1 lap it could gain you a little, over the course of 10 laps you gain some more as consistency goes up quite a bit.

Faster, I dunno :) More comfortable for me, and as Shottah says the difference may be more noticable over a race than a lap.

Full GTEye set, yes, gas feels great. I don't use clutch, but it feels well matched too. I imagine the full Nixim set would also be well matched, and probably better than swapping other springs around (maybe not by much, but the stock springs are different lengths to each other, so don't simply make a pedal stronger or weaker).

Well I mentioned the deadzone just so you are aware... the other solution is to fit the rubber block back in, or use the one that comes with the Nixim spring (if you get that), or find something else like silicone tubing. I just really didn't want a buffer because it felt 'fake', but if you get it set right it can help laptimes - at least as a reference point when you feel it start compressing.

This was the primary reason why I went for the T300RS because it comes with the T3PA pedals with optional brake modification with plenty of space to add foam if need be. I specifically added 3 x 10mm pieces of closed cell PU foam to create the effect you require because it offers both a great deal of resistance and damping for the surface area provided by the back of the pedal and the optional bracket. There is still an ongoing issue with the initial calibration in that the system continuously tries to reset max. braking pressure so I've had to replace the cone with a solid bolt in order for it to recognise this every time. So if you add any form of resistance to your pedals, the brake pedal will need to reach that same exact maximum travel point every time (typically once or twice a lap) until PD resolve this problem.
