After the Formula 2 success with Ibiza Kit Car, Cordoba WRC was created in 1998. But it went doubts to Seat: Toledo's 1st generation came to end and the 2nd generation wasn't ready; Seat Ibiza was too short to follow WRC regulations (same happened to Peugeot 206 but he got an special permission). So, they created an WRC version based in Seat Cordoba 3-Door Hatchback. It is powered by 2.0L engine with 4 valves per cylinder and 16 valves total. It has 300 HP and 480 NM. It is featured with a sequential 6-speed gearbox and it weights 1230 kg.
The Cordoba WRC made an debut in 1000 Lakes Rally Finland 1998 with 11th place with Harri Rovanpera. In Rally Sanremo, he retired due an accident in 3rd leg of 1st stage. In Australia Rally, he was 11th again and in RAC Rally of UK, he finished 6th, scoring 1 point for Seat.
In next year, Liatti finished 6th in Monte Carlo; 6th place in Kenya by Rovanpera and 3rd on New Zealand by Gardemeister. In 1000 Lakes Rally 1999, it was replaced by the facelift of Seat Cordoba which is known as E2.
