I have been struggling with weather to buy a prebuilt cockpit, or build one. I have all the necessary skills to build from wood or steel, just no seat. Auto seats are just a bit heavier than I want to deal with, so I went on the hunt for something reasonable out there.

I found this thread https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=112456 and really liked those seats. I think I have found them on sale and with (somewhat) free shipping here http://www.carparts.com/CARPARTS-SPECIAL-VALUE-RECLINING-RACING-SEATS/GP_2018437_N__10618.car I think I will probably go ahead and order one. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks Tim!
I found them on ebay for a couple of dollars less. Just the blue, grey and black versions for now. I was hoping for red, but may wait a week and see what else they list. I'll get started on a basic 2x4 frame for my first attempt.

If you're still looking around, check out Summit Racing. They have a range of seats in the ~$120 bracket, including some fixed "buckets" if you're interested.

They used to have these dirt cheap one-piece blow-molded seats, which were like $50, I'd never run them in a real car but they'd be great for a budget cockpit setup, sadly I don't see them anymore.

- Never mind, here we go! They've got ones as cheap as $31-95! http://www.summitracing.com/search/...essories/Part-Type/Racing-Seats/?Ns=Price|Asc

Thanks for the link. My only concern with those seats is the lack of padding. I would think marathon sessions would benefit from a well padded seat. I see that Amazon sells some ProCar by Scat seats for a decent price. I am also looking at production auto seats now. I guess I just need to decide on my seat and get on with my project.

Well it's a year later and those seats are doing well.
I say well, not very well, only because 1 of them is having an issue with the fabric.
Some of it is loose around the belt loop in the back rest area of the seat.
It does not interfere with the function or get in the way at all.
Other than that they are perfect.
These seats have worked very well and are very comfy.
We use them every week for about 4.5 hours in 1 sitting and no one has ever complained of being uncomfortable.

Of course Jake's setups are very nice.
