Second time around ...

I've started GT3 again, this time with the wheel and attempting to spend as little money as possible. Let me tell you, the licenses are STILL a pain (:

After I finished arcade mode and got the Esperante I hit the races. I've finished probably 50% of the Beginner stuff - some with the Esperante and some with the cars I win. Not spending money includes oil changes, so I have to save the Esperante to win bigger cars in later races.

I'm looking forward to the big win cars like 50% game completion for the C5R and 75% for the 787B. Having those two will make life much more pleasant. Then I'll try to track down an F094/S and tackle the Formula GT.

I'm also breazing through the game much more quickly then I did the first time around. I suppose it's a major bonus to know what to expect having finished it completely once already. It's interesting, though, having to win cars to enter in races. I'm having a heck of a time beating the Beginner FF with my piddly Del Sol SiR. Sure would be nice to drop about 20,000 in tune ups into that bad boy (:

Good point.

Well, I jumped into Amature real quick to win a GT-One Road Car as the last full power effort from my Esperante. It's holding at 588 so maybe it won't drop too much lower. I think I will take it to "Like the Wind".

Now that I have a GT-One, what are some recomendations for picking up more cars? I need to find prize cars to get me into the specific entry races like TT, Beetle Cup, etc.

So far it's been fun. There's different strategy when you have to worry about your cars becoming obsolete.

LM - on the GT3 board, there's a stickie saying "Look Here Before You Ask". There's a prize list in that thread.

MMhmmmm ... what I was asking was 'where would you go with a GT-One that couldn't be modded for your next prize car?' Really stuff I should just be figuring out on my own but I thought since this was a discussion board I'd try to make some discussion out of it. (:

I tried my 588HP Esperante in Like The Wind ... I was fourth place after the first lap and down by 14+ seconds. I don't think that one is meant to be. I'll have to win the rally series for the Escudo or make it to 75% and get the 787B in order to win that one with an unmodded car.

This is what threw me.

You can use the TS020-road to win the German Touring Car Championship in Amateur. That will make the Beetle Cup Car available.

The Beetle Cup car can be used to win the Beetle Cup (heh). That will gove you the Beetle RSi which will be eligible for a number of things, including Beginner AWD. The beginner AWD will give you the Aalto Works which is eligible for the Kei Car challenge (lightweights). The RSi can be a potent machine and can also be fitted with dirt tires to try an early rally set.

Ohhh ... yesss ... the Beetle looks like the key then.

I've continued running my ragged out Esperante in Amature races. I had forgotten that most of these races aren't up to "GT" class yet - just big street cars. I guess I'll be saving my hard core racers for Pro then.

how about trying the polyphony digital cup with the gt one road car?

That could get me a GT-One Race car which could be nice for some FR / Turbo stuff. The F094/s would be wonderful ... Hmmm perhaps that will be where I blow the GT-One Road Car.

Straight from the compendium I have this to say:

Like the Wind - Professional

I attempted this many times in the Esperante, but ultimately decided to do it with the Viper GTSR Concpet. Had I done a bit more research, I could likely have won this easily. What I was unsure of was the pit schedule of the Viper GTS. In retrospect, it would have been an easy win in the Esperante.

Anyways, I did it in the Viper.

I pitted on Lap 10, with red tires
AI Pitted on Laps 5, 10 and 15

Viper GTS: + 15.483
Skyline GT-R V spec (R34): +1 lap
Castrol Tom’s Supra: + 2 laps
Esprit Sport 350: + 5 laps
Zonda C12S: + 6 laps

Best Lap: 1’41.621

Total Time: 34’32.422

Average Lap: 1'43.621

It was a tough run, as the viper was in the lead most of the time, Pit strategy allowed me to win. I unfortunately didn't write down what my set-up was. Likely bottom out the suspension, ASM = 3; TCS = 1, and adjust Autosetting up to ??

If I recall, I ran this on the tires you win with the car. The Concept that I ran it with was won from golding the S-license. I'd assume that was with T5 tires or Normal Tires. In either case, T2's will eliminate the pit stop. You'll know that the T2's will run the 20 laps. Also dro pall the downforce, and tune out the transmission to match the track.

I think that it can be done in the Esperante. In fact, give me a 1/2 hour, I'll be back with a report. [edit]OK, back with the report. Nope. I faced off against the Speed 12. He easily outran me, and was looking at a 1 or 2 pit schedule. By the end of lap 7 I was 48 seconds off the lead, and dropping 5 seconds + each lap. The SPeed 12 hadn't pitted at that point, and there was no way I could catch him.

LM, can the Esperante for cash and pick out a car that can top 230mph on the back stretch. That's what you'll need to win.

I would love to do that, but I'm spending no money. I've decided that I'll take the Escudo to Like The Wind after I win the Rally series. That should make it a walk in the park.

I have discovered, though, that the Esperante is holding its own even as its power drops to the 570 range. It's a beast. I've been clipping off races in Pro with it still. I need a good rally racer (I have none) and a good 4WD - my R32 can't quite keep up.

I keep going back to the Prize Car List looking for what I need to enter a race, realizing how much work it's going to be to get the car, and letting out a huge sigh. But I've got a whole lot of cash! (:

LM:

I'm auditioning cars I've never driven before, for the Laguna Seca enduro. I have a Panoz I've never touched, but everybody I know except you and Gil seems to hate it.

Any driving or setup tips that you can share?

I'll agree with LM on the Esperante. It certianly has enough to deal with most competition. Much like the Zonda's if it's over powered, you'll have trouble. In stock form I found it quite fun to run.

On the Rally note, LM, do you realize you can only pick up a car with Dirt tires in 4 places? Gold Rally license (Subaru Prototype), PD cup (escudo), Rome Enduro (Delta Integrale), and the Amateur EVO Meeting (Evo VI rally)?

ALmost got scared there for a moment, when I realized you wanted to do it without spending any money, including cash spent on tires.

I guess Gil is going to be your man on this. I don't know that it's all that great if you've got a bunch to chose from, but in my situation I'm making it last. I do enjoy driving it, but ... don't over power it. It feels heavy like a stone and it's hard as hell to turn. I finally gave up on running without TCS / ASM and bumped them each up just a bit.

Honestly I think I've made it worse (as I usually do) by attempting to tweak its settings. I know I need to do something with the gears now that I've majorly messed them up. I also slammed a good deal of front end downforce on it hoping to get better steering but I've only made it eat tires in double time.

It sounds good! It's fast on the straights. And it looks good in replays. If I had to choose something in its range I don't know that the Esperante is the one I would choose. I'm just using it because it's the fastest car I've won so far (scratch that, GT-One Road Car) but I'm getting used to its aukwardness around the bends.

... and the Amateur EVO Meeting (Evo VI rally)?

That's the one I'm going for (: There's no way I could get golds on the licenses - I was lucky to get bronze this time around. And yes, I panic'ed a bit as well when I realized I had to buy dirt tires for whatever 4WD I attempted to enter with last night. But I checked the list and found the same cars you found. I do believe there are a few races I'll have to puchase cars for, but hopefully it won't be too many.

The only cars you absolutely need to purchase are a Speed 6 and a Mercedes. As monay of us found out, go for the AMG and not the SLK. You spend equal amounts of cash to win on either, but you'll get an SLK for the first (beg, Ama?) Merc race.

The only other car you'll have a tough time getting is the Clio race car. Th eonly place to win it is at the Super Speedway enduro.

Guess I'll be spending quite a lot of time on the Super Speedway ... yuck.
