Sector 1 is Driving Me Crazy

I am currently sitting at a 2:17.419, placing me 2nd in my region.

But... laps like that are extremely sporadic as I cannot find a decent braking point for the first corner. I am extremely inconsistent through Turn 1, and in Turn 4 (Loop) I always lose around .1-.2. I see what I need to do, as far as making my way towards the curb on the exit of Turn 4, but I just can't slide it into 4 consistently.

I am very grateful for the lucky lap I got, but I was .400 off of Ti-Tech's 1st sector. Beyond that I lose little chunks throughout the track, but I am stride for stride with the top times in every corner besides Turns 1 and 4.

If any of you really quick guys have advice for consistency or braking technique, that would be fantastic for all of us.

I need to get back above Let_Canada_ln. I can't let the one sneaky canuck take it from us! :P

For turn 1 I brake just at the start of the green kerbing that you'll see next to the track, turn 4 is a bit hit and miss, you just need to practice getting the car turn to the apex, maybe if you follow the same ghost for a while you will get a reference from that 👍

Sector 1 is driving me crazy too, particularly turn 1 (Abbey) which I just cannot seem to do consistently. In my last session, nearly half of my laps had to be thrown away because I messed up turn 1 in some way. Sometimes I miss the apex and run wide. Other times I cut the corner, invalidating the lap. Sometimes I go too fast and run wide, and other times I go too slowly and watch whichever ghost I'm racing fly past.

My sector 1 time is easily the slow point of my best lap so far, I set a 38.139 (!) on a 2:17.882 lap.

Occasionally, the stars align and I actually get sector 1 right; my best 1st sector is a 37.8xx, and I've managed 37.9xx a few times.

We are all in the same boat, aren´t we?
If I wanted to describe my experience, I would use the exat same words matthew. :banghead:

I just suck everywhere... :yuck:

At least the US leaderboard is a good source of amusement: 1st is Canadian, 2nd is 16 and 3rd is 16 and using a controller.

Half of the top ten are not eligible.

Not sure why I'm laughing though because I still wouldn't be fast enough to qualify if I lived in the US and I'm not eligible either. :sly:

I'm ineligible too, no licence or passport. It's bloody annoying to be unable to qualify for lack of a small amount of money. :grumpy:

Too slow as well, but we'll gloss over that. :sly:

if you want a little more consistency, try braking a bit earlier and letting off slightly to get more accuracy on your entry speed and line. if you come into turn 1 a bit too slow, you can always make up for it by staying in on 2 and getting a wider line into 3, which then helps your approach into 4.

my problem is pretty much the opposite... i can consistently run mid 18's, but i haven't been able to get below an 18.3 :grumpy: my sector 1 is solid, and i can usually keep up with the top guys, but i'm losing a LOT of time in sector 2 (particularly in luffield and the esses.)

I'm ineligible too, no licence or passport.

i have a question about this... let's say i make it into the top 31. i have a passport, but i need to renew it. does it need to be valid by the time the qualifiers are over?

You should watch your words kid, the walls are listening  (I'm 19, see the irony?)

The finals is in Silverstone, England. So logically, in order to avoid any unhappy endings, I would get everything sorted out BEFORE it is too late, including renewing my passport and/or driving license!
