This has to do with computers and my PS2! I don't know which forum this belongs in but I'm assuming it belongs here. But anyway, I got a network adapter for my PS2 So I can play online games. I have Twisted Metal Black Online When I go online with my game our Firewall [Norton] detects some sort of communication that comes from Germany to San Jose, California and Its coming here. (sorry if this sounds confusing) I thought that the Online server was there. But Last night I recieved this pop-up on my mothers computer (and mine) That there was a conflict between an IP address. And I was not even playing my game! Norton only detects things when I'm playing. I really think someone is really trying to hack us! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: But how in the world could our IP address be published onto the server? I mean, how could anyone find out our IP addy through a game? :odd: Am I jsut crazy here or is someone trying to hack us? :odd: :odd: :banghead:

If you have a firewall, you have nothing to worry about.

This belief that anything that goes wrong with a computer is because someone is trying to hack you or you're infected with a virus is overrated. It's just an IP address, it's not going to hurt you.

Dude, people scan the internet all the time for machines that are vulnerable. Typically this kind of activity is completely unnoticed by average users. I wouldn't worry about this too much unless you start seeing programs running that you know you haven't installed. Popups can come from anything. Email, web sites, etc. If you got BO'ed or something and that's causing you to get popups, the guy hacking you is an idiot anyway.

Not exactly,

Hackers can go through the firewall but I think only a few know how to. The computer I'm using does NOT have a firewall so that suxx. :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

No, firewalls only allow/disallow connections by a predetermined policy. It's only as secure as the policy, which is sometimes fallible. Also, often times firewalls allow connections out of necessity, for example, inbound port 80 connections to a web server. So if that web server is not secure (i.e. vulnerable to exploits, commonly known or otherwise), any script kiddie with a program designed to break into said server (Oh, let's say.... IIShack) can get in with ease. A chain's only as strong as its weakest link. My point though is that if Norton reports those connection attempts, that means it probably didn't allow those connection to go through. But who knows...

Do yourself a favor and go visit www.zonelabs.com and download the free version of ZoneAlarm then. It's better than nothing.
