Seems now that the rumoured SimBin project will go multiplatform, for pc, 360 & ps3

Going multiplatform may be the best way to go for many developers. SimBin seems to have been gearing up for that for quite some time. With their new Lizard-engine they will probably be able to reach a bigger audience than just PC simracers.

Hopefully they will keep the "Sim" in SimBin. I have followed the discussion on Swedish Sim Racers, and some people express their anxiety that SimBin will abandon their loyal hardcore PC simracer fan base and go arcade to please the casual console players.

However from what I have seen on this FC forum there are at least some PS3 owners that would enjoy a real racing simulator with realistic physics and online play.

I agree that it could be a long wait for SimBin's new project. But it is something to look forward to. Between Need for Speed Shift*, Super Car Challenge and of course GT5 itself, I think we're going to have some good choices on the table over the next year. I was beginning to look a little jealously at the Xbox 360 camp after the release of Race Pro. But considering what's on the horizon, I'm happy to be in PS3 land.

* Need for Speed Shift is also supposed to be a REAL racing sim and it's based on the remains of (now defunct) Blimey Studio's 'Ferrari Project'. Screen shots below:

Those pics are excellent, note the fuel gaugesand the split time display. However also note there's only 3 laps and their in 0 gear :/ @74kmh. "untouched" my ass.

I look forward to any racing game though and the graphics look pretty.

The "O gear" could be explained because the driver is changiing gear (in GT5P, if you use the clutch, the "N" appears between gear changes).

Nice pictures indeed, the first one reminds me GP Legends, the last PC (racing) game I played.

And, btw, what track is that? Considering the german flags and the very twisty section we can see, I guess it can be the Nordschliefe, but the track is much too wide for that.

Good eye indeed! Blimey Games, who did the initial work on Ferrari Project in 2006/2007, was the development team responsible for GT Legends. And Blimey was headed by Ian Bell, the former director of SimBin. So the similarities are no coincidence. And it gives one a lot of hope that this will be a very sophisticated simulation as opposed to an arcade racer. Blimey Games themselves filed for bankruptcy and were purchased by Slightly Mad Studios. And Slightly Mad are continuing it's development for Electronic Arts under the title Need For Speed: Shift.

(I hope I got all of that right) ;) Either way, it seems like games based solely on one make, even if it IS the Prancing Horse, have the kiss of death as Slightly Mad has expanded the title to include other makes. (See picture below). So I guess System 3's lesson with Ferrari Challenge was well learned in the industry.

I said ... GP :) Legends. Cult game, btw.

Here's a heavily edited fan made movie of it. The game isn't actually THAT good, but it's anyway amazing what a 90's game delivered (windows 95/98, Pentium processors, yeah ... amazing).

NFS SHIFT
GS: Shift development is being overseen by EA Games SVP Europe Patrick Soderlund and EA Black Box's Michael Mann--where is it being developed?

KM: Shift is being developed in the UK by a collaborative team including Slightly Mad Studios, senior vice president Patrick Soderlund from EA Games Europe, and exec producer Mike Mann from Black Box. Slightly Mad Studios includes developers that worked on highly acclaimed PC simulation racing titles GT Legends and GTR 2.

GS: You say the game is "built by racers for racers." Does that mean this game will be EA's Gran Turismo or Forza?

KM: There are a couple of levels to this. First, we have a number of people working on Shift that have real racing and motorsport backgrounds. We'll get into more details on this later, but as an example, Patrick Soderlund is a driver and part of the racing team that recently competed in the 4th edition of the Toyo Tires 24H Dubai 2009, the first major race event of the year. His team ranked 5th in this high-profile race. He is very passionate about and committed to bringing the on-the-track experience to players around the world.

Second, regarding other games in the sim racing genre. We see Shift joining the ranks of the world's top simulation racing games with authentic cars and tracks, but it definitely offers its own signature look and feel. Shift represents the true driver's experience. Traditional simulation driving games tend to focus on replicating a car's performance, Shift moves beyond that by combining a player's unique driving style with accurately modeled cars to really drive home what it feels like to be behind the wheel.

We're also bringing the built-by-racers authenticity via core technology. Need for Speed is renowned for capturing speed and a unique style of racing. Shift continues that through an all-new sophisticated visual interface. For example, there is a three-dimensional HUD that mimics driver head movement, inertia, and G-forces. The depth of field also adjusts based on the speed of the car; so when the car is traveling at high speeds, the perspective will shift to the distance, putting the car/cockpit out of focus.

Sounds like it could be quite good

It does look like it, notice the writing on the track also....

If a RACE PRO alternative comes to PC, I'd want that. I'm really like GTR Evo/RACE07 right now, can't wait for it.

I haven't a clue what the first sentence means. :odd: Only a marketing genius could write such gibberish.

The visual effects emulating speed and G forces sounds like an interesting idea but until you play it first hand it's impossible to say if this will turn out to be a silly gimmick or great idea that will be envied and copied by everybody. Can't wait to try it though. 👍

Sorry, GP Legends, GT Legends--hey, you know...one has to be a lawyer to pick up on these things. ;)

A lot of people still talk about GP Legends. This is the first time I've ever seen a video of it. And indeed, considering it's now 10 years old it's very impressive.

And either way, any video paired with Born Too Slow as a soundtrack is OK! :)

Hmm wondering if GP Legends will work on my macbook in "windows XP" mode and the Logitech DF-GT pluged in?

Thanks Hun, I've not downloaded any user tracks yet but watkins glen is a good track. I'm just using a MacBook with bootcamp program to run Windows XP on it, Game runs absoloutly fine with full settings and the Logitech DFGT works fine as well. I'll see what tracks I can find for it, but I'll probubley pick a copy up what other GT games were out around the same time or would run on my inpromptude gameing laptop LOL Oh yeah I ran a monitor cable to my TV to make thinks a little bigger. It's a good game, not in the leauge of FC or GT5p but the car handeling is very good.

It's getting worse I just picked up a copy of GTR for £1.50......works fine I'm just hunting down any mods for it, any ideas?

GTR 1 and no ones playing it online LOL but at £1.50 I'm not bothered, car handleing isn't as good as FC or GTp but it's not far off and spa is fantastic, especialy starting on a wet track and watching it slowly dry as the race progresses!

Locking this as it's all over the place.

New Simbin sim > NFS Shift > GPL > GTR1, and all of that in the Ferrari challenge forum.
