Serial package-bombing - Austin, Texas.

I recall hearing about this a day or two ago with people suggesting that blacks are the deliberate target of the bombs.

Has there been a federal response to letterbombings taking place in your own country or is Fox & Friends on and thus too important to miss?

I don't particularly care for the stab at conservative members here who do/did watch FOX, but to answer your question, no, there hasn't and there isn't going to be until the perp has been caught. That is what happened to the Unibomber, there was a response after he was caught, but not before.

Though I will say in the feds defense that there are probably a dozen FBI agents in Austin looking over this with a fine tooth comb right now.

What seems amazing given the American media's apparent fear of terrorism is that the word doesn't seem to be getting much use across the press. The search is now all the more urgent as she/he has seemingly started mailing bombs and setting up indiscriminate tripwire devices rather than hand-delivering specific packages.

The FBI has directly requested that the bomber rings to speak to them and the Guvnor has offered a reward for information etc. etc.

Terrorism is synonymous with a certain group of people and thus has become even PC'd out because of such. I agree that terrorism is far encompassing but this is the American press we're talking about and unless they're not pushing a trend or helping preserve one you wont see much in the way of "journalism". I don't think there is a fear of terrorism, but rather a fear of who they supposedly alienate when using such.

I could support the idea of media fears in using such a word, right after the anthrax attacks, but that was nearly two decades ago, most popular media figures weren't around then.

No.

Filling in the blanks with your imagination must keep you entertained; hope you're feeling better now.
The link was from CBC.ca - World news. Sometimes I do look further than the tip of my nose. ;)

Last time I looked the reward was $115,000. The request for the bomber to contact authorities follows the same ploy they used when tracking down Ted Kaczynski.

Absolutely the IRA, or radical right wing Christians wanting revenge...

Terrorism only comes up when it is those that are of radical Islamic dissent in American media, and that only is done after a heavy vetting to not stir up the idea in general.

Understood.

No.

Isn't there a Unabomber series on Netflix now? I seem to remember that the last time I glanced through the listings. Maybe we're dealing with a copycat?

Fox is now reporting a 6th blast.

@Johnnypenso
At this time it seems there is way too little information to speculate about motive. The Unabomber was some kind of demented scientist fighting a one-man war against the industrial revolution. Probably not too many copycats of that particularly obscure motivation.

The latest bomb exploded at a Goodwill, of all things. Poor people seem to be the targets. Unabomber targeted executives.

Unabomber wasn't a demented scientist. He was top level mathematician and could have been a leader in the field had he not gone the way he did with trying to "balance" out the world by getting back at the big corporations. Many of his works are still looked at and used, and his probabilities seem to outline his main issues. In general the world is going down a path were AI are inevitable and humans will be replaced by machines and so on and so forth, and then he acted on trying to undermine that is a very callous and madman way.

This on the other hand is probably no where near that level of thought, but clearly that level of madness.

I've been getting mixed news today. Did he blow himself up then get shot by the officer or the officer shot him then he blew himself up, possibly accidentally?

Not sure, everything I've seen says he blew himself up as authorities were closing in.

Seems to that he was stopped and when a SWAT officer approached the rear, he detonated himself injuring the officer in the process, according to my local news last night.

So I’m guessing his end game was always suicide whilst potentially taking any life with him.

I’m curious about the motive as these didn’t appear to be very big bombs with a few injuries and 1 fatality. They said all the bombs were made by the same person but they seemed to imply by someone else? And there didn’t seem to be any heavy implication he may have mailed more before his death?

The early reports I read said he blew himself up as they approached the car and then they shot at him.

There were 2 deaths actually. They are currently worried about bombs after his death, but for the moment it doesn't seem like there are any.
