For some reason when I play in a race people complain that I lag yet on my side everything is fine. I try clearing my cache and still get complaints. Anyone know why and perhaps how to fix it?

Well first things first, do a speed test, either on the PS3 or via a website like speedtest.net. To do it via the PS3, on the xmb go to Settings, then Network, and then Test Connection.

To prevent causing lag you need a good upload speed.

Also, if you're using a wireless connection, ensure that you've got a good wireless signal, at least 75% or more and if possible use a wired connection instead.

It's highly possible that you're causing lag but not seeing it yourself. Just because your connection looks to be fine during a race doesn't necessarily mean that it is.

Also your bandwidth can be fine but you might be having packet loss that creates lag as well. Google search for a web site that tests packet loss and that might be why your server is lagging.

i did a test and this is what I found

Download: 2.52 Mbps

Upload: 1.00 Mbps

Packet Loss: 0%

Latency: 144 ms

Jitter: 35 ms

My ps3 has half the download and upload compared to my computer (even though it's closer to the router than the computer that perfomed the test. Why I don't know)

I believe that generally the PS3 is always slower compared to a PC regarding internet speed.

Alright, now it seems to be a little bit better but I disconnect at random points during a race. I'm trying to convince my parents to get better internet (because ours is a rip off) but they won't seem to bite.

Disconnects from online lobbies can be caused by having the music on in GT5, turn all music off especially User BGM, & see if that helps. Your speed & other stats seem ok, but I would suggest using a wired connection if others are saying that you're lagging, I've seen that pretty much solve all lag issues for some guys.
