Severe freezing problem! :(

I have the original psp 1001 model and I have been having a severe problem with gran turismo freezing during a race. It only freezes during a race and I don't know what to do anymore. The psp itself is in perfect condition and has only been used a handful of times. I opened it brand new out of the sealed box just 4 months ago...I won it out of a game machine at my local mall...god knows how long it sat there waiting for me to win it. Does anybody else have this problem or know a solution? I have tried installing umd data and deleting it and nothing works. Could it be because i have so many cars? My friends 2000 model never skips a beat...ugh...I am so irritated with this.:ouch: Any solutions or suggestions will be greatly appreciated! thanks.

just to add to my statement before...when it freezes, it shuts off the portable automatically after about 10 seconds when it freezes...and I am POOR and paid 50 cents on the machine I won it from so any donations for a new slim model would be greatly appreciated :) I actually have a 2000 but with a cracked screen so really i just need a new screen...now accepting donations! :)

Have you tried installing the game to a memory stick to keep it from running off the UMD? Or do you already have the digital download version?

If you have the UMD version, you can install it on a memory stick from the UMD in the options menu. If not, I'd suggest redownloading it, but I wouldn't expect it to help much. Would be worth a try, though.

The poor guy can't play GT and now you want him banned? Have you no heart?
:sly:

Yeah, let's help the poor guy!

Well, for start; you should never, EVER trust a PSP in those machines, I mean...come on, seriously how did it get there in the first place? :ill:

Second; no matter what happens, I don't think sony will ever give you a hand with this...

My guess is: The PSP is busted...it's been so long in there that heat might fried something, I mean...that model came out in 2005...it's rock age.

Honestly, if you hold on tight to your piggy, you might get a new PSP :sly:
That's how I got mine. :dopey:

Ok, just to verify, the whole donations thing was a joke and if I get banned then so be it...I am an honest guy who just wanted to know if there was a solution. I don't have the downloaded version, just a umd that plays fine on other psp's. Mine plays fine from time to time but will always freeze eventually. And no, Sony wouldn't help me because they are greedy and just want more of my money. Im lucky to have what I have. (PS3 and PSP w/GT was a gift...thank my girlfriend)

Sounds to me like your UMD reader may be dodgy. I would say your best bet would be to do as suggested and install the game to a memory stick duo, I'd at least try that before saving for a new PSP (and sorry, no donations from me, I need the cash just in case GT5 ever comes out :sly: )

My game froze on me once during the loading in starting grid when you start the race. It was probably memory stick related.

*throws change at screen* did you get my donation??

Well, don't break your screen by throwing change at it :)...I installed the umd data to my memory stick but you still need the umd in to play and start the game. How could I download it without paying? and using the umd? Also, my umd reader should be fine because I have tried other games that I borrowed from a friend and they work fine. I dunno anymore...thanks so much guys...guess I will just see you all on GT5 whenever it comes out.

Why should I have to pay for something i already paid for? Sorry, but I cant afford that just to play GT. No intention of being mean so dont take that the wrong way. I wish i could tho.

I've had a few games which freeze up on me and cause the PSP to shutdown, and this is on my Slim/Lite model. The problem is caused because it can't read data from the UMD, then throws a wobbly because it doesn't have the data. Gran Turismo PSP streams track data as you drive (as it can't load the whole track into memory in one go), which is why you're experiencing the problem mid-race.

There's two things you can try which may help you out. I've successfully used both of these methods to get stubborn games to behave.

Firstly, check the UMD itself for any specs of dust. Most people assume that the UMD reader is at fault as the discs themselves have that protective sleeve. The reality is that UMD have a rather high density rate, so they can be affected by dust quite easily. In most cases just a single speck of dust has been the cause of my games freezing.

Secondly, try turning the wireless switch off on the PSP. This might sound like an odd solution, but I've used it successfully before. The only explanation I can provide is that the PSP's circuitry is such that when the wireless is powered on it affects the level of power available to the UMD reader (either reducing it or causing it to be less consistent), which in turn reduces the strength at which the laser in the UMD reader operates.

Hopefully you'll be able to get Gran Turismo working fine for you again. :)

Thank you for that info! I will try that today after doing some work...finally i get to make a little bit of money!! :) Wish me luck...or better yet, wish my psp and umd luck! lol

Completely true!
It also consumes more battery power, so don't leave on unless you need it 👍

I've had some issues with the game freezing the PSP as well. It freezes everytime at the pit menu screen. For some reason, it freezes over and over, so then I give up on the event I wanted to do. So then, I change the track and car, which, after that, it suddenly works. To be honest, this problem's driving me mad...

I tried everything...and no luck. Even after I cleaned the umd, turned wlan switch off, changed cars, tracks, nothing works. GT psp just doesn't like me guys. It's all good though. When GT5 comes out (if it ever does) I will have 4800 cars to transfer from my psp! Oh I can't wait!!!
