Not to much related to OP but I need a Shift 1 thread to post this video I've found on the web. This is Shift 1 PC version, handling fix and a sweet 430

I've to admit console version without handling mods looks weak compared to this.

EDIT: this is a 458 from FM3 and lots of great race cars.

Yeah, I think that's Shinsou's vid of Overhaul 1.31 in the top video, so about 6 months behind where we are with it now. Still a pretty good effort for a "hey probably most of this stuff will work if we toss it in blindly" mod but I wince when I think of the bugs I left in there :)

Post some videos of your stuff, gotta be interesting, We need to talk about pc sim racing a little bit more here at gtplanet. When I think about all the complaints, almost everything people are asking for is already there in PC sim racing, and mods.

I have pretty much zero video editing skills and my upload speed kind of sucks for doing any kind of video (I still have flashbacks to trying to upload <10sec low res damage videos :)). But it is cool to see people using stuff and having fun with stuff I've worked on / contributed to. The other day I found an italian forum and japanese blog talking about modding the game and using Overhaul / DLC / etc which was pretty cool to see :)

👍 I'm wondering if team of modders will enter in the console world one day. Big software houses could open contest with the goal to create bug fixing, physic improvement and new contents on DLC addons. The original developers once the game is finished they come up with one or two patches and that's it because they have deadlines and the have to work on the next game. Modders could give people new contents and a polished game, improving the quality of DLC.

The cost of a good pc for gaming is around 600 €. The same price at the PS3's launch some years ago. Sony and Microsoft will need to consider it when they'll launch new gen consoles.

EDIT: I didn't mean hacking, but legal stuff. A contest could be an opportunity for everyone:
- Modders will have a chance to showcase their skills as programmers.
- Software hauses will have top quality DLC ready for the market.
- People will buy more DLC because of the improved quality.
- Original developers will not be in a rush to complete the content of a game (in exhample some of the 800 standard cars in GT5 could be done by modders and 3d designers, not only by PD).

Pretty much anything Microsoft is hackable but I really doubt that will ever happen on PS3, unless software houses make an SDK available...

Am I wrong?

Doubt it fits into the console manufacturer culture. Making a mod is one thing, making a mod that is certified by MS/Sony, localised for all game regions, formatted / optimised properly for the platform (requires dev kits), behaves in terms of sitting within the maximum profile size allotment for a game on the player's account, etc, is another thing. This is not free to the publisher either, from what Valve mentioned about supporting TF2/L4D on consoles, publishers get a total of 2 updates per licensed game/pay DLC item on the 360 and then MS start asking for more money.

So, short version, probably it is best to play games on a platform that has an internal dev kit, no licensing/certification requirements, and does whatever the people making it want it to do, if you want to play 3rd party mods :)

yes, then there was an update (also hacked) and this happened 3/4 times?

Until now. This last update seems to close the door for real. I have to compare it with Matrix. Every time Sony "destroys Zion" they become more efficient at it :D

Today I've tried DX7 libraries in rFactor and it works better increasing my frame rate considerely keeping a good level of detail. Here's my question: does NFS Shift 1 support DX7?

Nope, DX9 only. Although, the shaders are plaintext and it can compile them on its own, so if you are familiar with the dark arts you could always write a less ambitious shading system :)

Lol no I'm not that familiar unfortunately. Need to wait a new pc then, but one day I'll try your overhaul, SMS should employ you :sly:
