SHIFT IS AN ARCADE GAME, shift 2 might as well put gun mounted cars so they can have a death race while having bugatti police cars chasing you coz the driving physics is non existent here.

Did you buy it?

You signed upto a Gran Turismo site and so far pretty much all you have done is flame Shift 2. Very strange behaviour.

The dude has red hair! :-) Also mentions GT5 has longlivety (which means grinding all the time on the same 3 tracks). Don't be bothered.

OT: S2 is actually great fun, even with my Fanatec GT2 CSP set. The sound of the cars is great and the races are balanced. When you get used to helmet cam it's a really cool feature.

It looks from the youtube video like the physics are very similar to the first one... i could be waay off coz ive not played shift 2 though. But if they are similar then it is WAY off realism. I have driven some road cars high speed for real and neither my dads two tonne land rover or my own very new fiesta behave anything like shift one. Both on nornal strreet tires. But the damage looks simply STUNNING!!! And i am soo happy for it that the disaster of prostreets ps2 graphics are now totally unrelateble to this. They 'look' very FM3 to me now outside, which is not a bad thing, while the interiors look very good. I think unleashes is going to do very well, but crushing gt5? Not really. Not when gt has double the number of cars that look so good.

BKViper: Shift 2 blows away GT5

Can you just change the title. It does not blows away GT5! There are positive and negative characteristics to both games.

Can you learn to read?
Perhaps you shouldn't have stopped reading after the title and read the actual thread.

When it comes to damage modelling.
EVERY racing game blows away GT5 in terms of damage modeling. You can ram over and over again in GT5 at 100mph with barely any damage. NFS has always been pretty good with their damage models. Especially in Pro Street.

That attitude is not needed and the point is valid.

The thread title is borderline flame-bait and I would strongly suggest that you edit it to be more representative of the actually points you are making in the thread.

I'm sure the last thing you want is for it to cause a whole load of flame-wars to break out in here and the thread to end up locked.

Agreed. The damage is top notch. Graphics and actual driving however, are no where near GT5 or Forza however.

That is from the replay photomode, just like GT5 has.
There is another mode specifically for taking pictures of you car.
Right now, I only see how to take pictures inside your garage.
Whether there are "photo locations" like GT5, I don't know yet.
One of three possibilities:
1.) It doesn't have locations
2.) I haven't figured out where to look yet
3.) They get unlocked as you progress

I already unlocked the ability to paint your car and use stickers (I was worried when I couldn't do it at first) and although I can't change wheels yet, other folks have unlocked that ability. So option #3 might be valid.

I'll take a few pics of my S2000 in the garage photo shoot session and upload them here in a little bit.
That second mode sounds like another carry over from NFS Hot Pursuit. You can take pictures in game while driving and also when choosing a car.

The damage does look great.

maybe not on an aged PS3/Xbox but on a a PC... it's not the same story... :)

some 3D guru guys try to find ways to upscale the game poor AA to Supersampling AA for nvidia cards which is much better (but also need more hardware resources)... and future mods will also greatly improve the overall graphic quality - because the PC game is more like a port from console (poor optimization, low def texture... )

Edit the graphics config xml file in your Documents/My Documents folder. Many of the settings are at 2 even when on high, but you can force the 3rd mode by changing them to 3. Beware, performance will go down unless you have a beefy GPU when doing this.

Dangerous thread title . . .

Regardless, Shift 2 has nailed the one thing that most disappointed me with GT5- RACING. Honestly, I just can't get into any of the single player A-Spec/Seasonal events in GT and feel like I'm racing. In this area in particular, I would say Shift 2 blows away GT5. But I guess in the end, GT5 never claimed to be a racing simulator, so . . .

To each game it's own w/respect.

I guess I never thought an EA game formerly of NFS fame would fill a void created by GT/PD. It's probably why I've been clinging to FM3 and F1 2010 while grinding through GT5. After running a few races on Shift 2 today at my house, a good buddy said, you know if it wasn't for online racing in GT5 (I run a weekly league with friends) I would have already shelved GT5. He's at 30-aspec and 29-bspec, and way sick of the grind. EA in it's infinite luck managed to produce a title which counter-punched GT5 right in the middle of Turn 10 releases.

Well the OP has been back on-line and not taken teh staffs advice regarding the thread title, so it gets a lock.

If the OP wants this back open then PM me with a less inflammatory title and we get it resolved, if not it stays locked.
