Shift had some stupid physics. It was like GTR1 beaten with retard stick. How the cars behaved on the limit of traction was just weird.

But anyway, with Bathurst in the game I'll definitely be buying it! I just hope they fix the silly physics a bit and have the option to use an interior cam but with the helmet off. Helmet view is stupid IMO, as is excessive headshake in cockpit that seems to becoming a trend (and literally gives me a headache when I play :P).

I do believe I've seen an interview (I think the link is on this site) where the developer stated we would have a helmet view as well as the regular cockpit view that Shift had. I'm interested to see how the helmet cam will turn out though, but I'll probably just stick to the cockpit view.

I'm pretty sure helmet cam will be the same as regular cockpit view with...

1. More vision blocked out by the helmet. (IMO this is bad as field of view is already a problem in racing games as you can't see the apex of a corner when you turn in)

2. More shaking and buffeting of the camera.

3. A weird tinting of the game's colour.

Personally I dont like any of those ideas so will stick to the old fashion cockpit view ;)

I'm afraid I'm not a big fan of cockpit view. The restriction in visibility is not so bad IRL where you have a stereoscopic view of what you CAN see, so turn in points and other cars' relative speed is far easier to judge. But in a game, especially with Shift's emphasis on rewarding aggressive driving, you need to be able to see as much as possible at all times.

I think they definitely need to test what a real driver actually CAN see without moving his head, and model that. Way it is now, I simply think they have modeled what a driver can see WITHOUT MOVING HIS EYES. Mirrors and the full width of the car can usually be seen without hardly any head movement IRL.

The other thing in real racing is that these guys TRUST each other to a fairly high degree. Their head doesn't need to be on a swivel looking for ramming attacks like we get in the game. Sure, there's a degree of rubbing, and healthy contact, but it doesn't APPROACH what goes on in Shift, especially online.

For me, it's hood cam every race...

If these are true in game with no bullshots then I have nothing to say but

What they absolutely need to do is fix the physic, in Shift1 cars were sliding around every corner, they have to work on this area, and imho a racing game don't need to be so "cinematographic" look at this trailer what's that? Burnout 2011? I hope it don't get too arcadey, that will be a shame. If they really want to challange GT5 and FM3 they need a simulator, first of all.

Thanks.

On that note, it really looks a lot like they've bumped the hell out of the texture resolution for this round of shots way up from the 1024x1024 of Shift 1. Hope this means I don't have to make an HD mod for Shift 2 :)

They do look gorgeous. I just hope to hell that it'll still look that good on the PS3, and that those aren't PC-only shots.

Vain hope, I know.

Being a frequent visitor of the Spa 24H races, I like what I see ! I absolutely recognise some parts of the track and the cars that raced last year's event. Great stuff, can't wait ! I must say I got bored of Shift 1 very soon racing Supercar Challenge, If Shift 2 comes anywhere near the physics of SCC I am a happy man. And, the in-car view is gorgeous.

Second text post of the entire thread...

A little late to the dance?

Would you like me to troll through several months' worth of posts and apply retroactive infractions (for extreme OT) and deletions for the next week? I will gladly do so, if you so desire to add points to your record and everyone else's here.

Last word. Stick to topic now.
