Hi all,

Sorry if this has been posted already but...

I have just come across this video of the upcoming Shift II Driving Game and i have to say.. looks amazing!

I was loving the first Shift game and still play it from time to time.

During this video the guy talks about the new features within the title and I am really impressed with one idea... HELMET CAM! If you look at the video behind him you can get a sample of how it looks... and man does that look intense!

Really looking forward to this title! Real innovative stuff! PD.. pay attention!

emm.. i think they are both driving games, please correct me if im wrong!

oh and have you seen how many threads there are about Forza... so shush!

Yes, in the Forza section. This forum is for discussion GT5.

Helmet Cam = Screen Shaking? Good idea for replays, but think the novelty would soon ware off behind the wheel.

Good point.. saying that 'Cockpit view' in Shift n GT5 shake and i use them quite abit... feels more intense! Especially when you aint really racing to win and just have fun!

But yeh i get your point.. if im racing to win i dont want to be put off by my shaking screen etc. so i move to the bonnet cam.

I've already got Shift 2 pre-ordered. Really looking forward to this game! I loved the first game, spent a couple months with it and platinumed it. The next one is supposed to have improved physics, improved graphics, twice as many cars and twice as many tracks.

Yippee!

Didn't GTR Evolution have a similar sort of "Helmet Cam" view? (Although I cant recall the screen shaking as much as that!)

Never played GTR Evo so couldnt comment. But yeh by the looks of this video is shakes quite abit.. hopefully as they'll be in the alpha stages of the game they will listen to gamers comments and possible issue a beta trial. hmmm fingers crossed!

Glad its the wrong section would not have found it otherwise, looks great if they can pull it off

Exactly! I knew this would be the better place to post it for more people to get a chance to see it :) .. well before the moderators move it and then it'll vanish into the background :)

I really enjoyed NFS Shift for a short period of time, but ultimately the physics weren't anywhere near as detailed or as challenging as even prologues... and the number of bugs in the game was just ridiculous!

Head movement....in a race car your eyes will counter the moment out so you still have a clear view of the track. Its the little thing in your brain that adjust to the gravity, it makes you stand up straight and all that .

Now in games they try to recreate this feeling of cars bouncing up and down and make the picture you see on the screen shake and all that but this isn't how it should be done ! You will get a headache if you have good balance as your screen or visuals are shaking as your body can't comprimise for it. There has been testing doen with prof. racing drivers with really trained balance ( to feel every movement of the car) and they can't even play normal racing games without getting sick.

Totally wrong way of going for a immersive feeling as he mentions it......

Shift was at best a mild fun little distraction whilst waiting for GT5 but it was far too much of an arcade racer to really get into. I cant imagine ever playing it again now GT5 is out. The only way Shift 2 would get my attention is if they took it closer to a sim racer and away from Arcade.......that video doesn't make me think they have.....and adding "Unleashed" to the title REALLY doesn't make me think they have.

Yep! I think it will walk all over GT5... although the HUGE car selection on GT5 is amazing... id actually rather have less cars that are modelled properly, break apart properly and are customizable etc.

One thing Shift does have is great FF compared to GT5P (although the steering deadzone was a PITA)... GT5 has a bit more involvement compared to GT5P on tracks like the Ring which are bumpy, but still for me GT5 tracks are too smooth, meaning you get very little steering feedback other than when you turn the wheel.

Shift 2? No thank you! NFS Shift was absolutely horrible, the only thing I liked about that game was the car sounds

ive just looked closer at the video and it seems that they have stopped the screen shaking massive amounts and it is only the helmet that moves mostly... i think this is what you are taking about.

Exactly why this is stupid, no humans see that much shaking about. They seem to be forgetting they're supposed to be simulating a human, not a camera.

I mean whilst you're sat at your screen, shake your head up and down vigoruously. Does your view distort, go up and down and go blurry? No, for the most part your brain compensates the movement and things stay pretty still.

I can remember 2 much earlier examples.

F1 '97 for PlayStation.

F1 Racing Championship for PS2 (my favorite PS2 F1 racer).

I'm one of those people, GT5's in car view makes me physically sick, Shift didn't do well for me either. I'll probably check it out on replays but theres no way in heck I will try to play with it.

I call it "Need For 🤬 ", you get me...

need for speed crap on a GT5 forum. Are you trying to give people heart attacks, strokes, instant brain cancer and what not?
